Sacred Symbols+, Episode 275 | Dead Space Remake Review Discussion and Spoilercast

We're a little late with this one, but better late than never! The reality is this: We friggin' love Dead Space Remake. It's a true dynamo, one that encapsulated so much of what made the 2008 original so special, while lovingly crafting a series of modern accoutrements and changes that heighten the entire experience. The USG Ishimura is indeed a haunted and dangerous place, and that alien marker... well... it makes us feel funny when we draw near it. That can mean only one thing: It's time to closely examine EA Motive's wonderful love letter to Visceral's original, an adventure some consider the best survival horror game of all-time.

Isn’t EA motive making an open world Star Wars game ?

Played an impossible run + plasma cutter only and it wasn’t too bad. Hilarious it kinda boiled down to abusing stasis and running and stomping the fuck out of them. Felt like I was jumping a bunch of space zombies the entire time lmao. 10/10 though really enjoying the side content. Only small gripe is the creatures in the first seemed faster and more twitchy which I think added to the scariness

“Inky Blacks” for anyone who plans on playing Callisto on an LG OLED. If you adjust the blacks levels in the game optimizer menu you’ll transform the games graphics completely. By default the games blacks appear washed out so by doing this the game will look every ounce as good as deadspace. It’s night and day.

I just finished the remake last night and played the re4 remake demo over the weekend. I understand that the demo is only 15 mins BUT something I have to applaud Motive for is not completely overhauling Deadspaces gameplay to the point it feels like a completely different game (re4 remake). Preface: IMO Every single aspect of gameplay in re4 is there deliberately and is perfect. I think DeadSpace remake proves that re4 remake only needed the ability to move while shooting, increase enemy movement speed, and a paint job. Long story short: re4 is not ps1 Final Fantasy 7. Nintendo didnt change Ocarina of Time, they modernized it. Same with Deadspace.

Thank you.

I agree.

Colin Moriarty

That's what I'd like to see.

Thanks for your support.

Excellent.

Regarding the marker influence when boarding the Ishimura. It's in the cargo bay at that point, before Mercer moves it. I'm pretty sure when you move through the corridor between the cargo bay and the tram station you get a moment with the lights going out, auditory and visual distortions. I'm pretty sure that's the marker taking effect on Isaac.

The standard and secret endings are not mutually exclusive. The original game has the same ending as the remake's standard ending, while the secret ending alludes more heavily to the events of Dead Space 2. Isaac is clearly not well at the end of the game, his hallucinations don't necessarily have to be internally consistent.

The last thing I expected from this was hearing Chris sing Billy Joel. Word.

SnipaMasta

Chris has been killing it on the spoiler casts!

My ONLY gripe about the game is that the highest level armor looks the least cool, I much prefer his grubby, brutal looking armor with the browns and greys, than the white cyborg one

John

Playing dead space with infinite ammo and credits is like watching star trek on 5 times speed ;)

The Ripper was hands down my go to weapon. I loved it. The beam weapon was my boss fight weapon. Plasma cutter for babies and singular enemies. Flame for bloated enemies that spawned little crawlies. I discovered that if you used flame on bloated, they will not burst and thus no crawlies to worry about. Loved this game.

The secondary fire on the line gun is hilarious. I had it maxed out by the end when the game just starts throwing waves at you and it was funny to just go to a corner and make your own little safe pocket of lasers while all the xenomorphs would sprint at you and turn themselves into sashimi.

I'm glad I played through the original again late last year on gamepass. It really allowed me to see all the improvements and additions to the game no matter how small or nuanced they were. I actually played through all three of the older games and agree with Colin's early assessment that it may make sense to just go a different direction with the franchise rather than create a remake of those two later games.

Thanks for the episode

I just received my collectors edition yesterday and currently listening to the spoiler cast while trying to find a spot for this giant box in my game room.
