Sacred Symbols+, Episode 285 | Slow Times Demand A Call-In Show

As we desperately await any word whatsoever of an upcoming PlayStation showcase -- likely aiming for this May -- we're left to pick through the carcass of a slow time in news. That's when we thought: Why not go to the audience? So we did just that, taking eight calls from our listeners on a range of topics, from how publishers actually work and the wisdom of a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake to the role 100-hour games play in our lives and why developers need to rethink downloadable content. Thank you, as always, for your thoughtful inquiries, and for taking the time to speak with us.

Hey Dustin, You mentioned a Youtube Channel about Gamedevelopment and many Background insights. I can't find this chanel or the Part in the podcast with the info. can you help me out? Thanks a lot

Eugen R.

A modern version of the Psycho Mantis fight could have you turn off your controller and turn it back on instead of the controller port two trick, or maybe turn off the dualsense haptics to accomplish the same thing.

Man the first time I beat Cyberpunk was a moment man...what a game. I've been playing it again lately especially with the new path tracing update. (which is gorgeous)

Lou & Rei Loper

He’s a personal friend, I hope he gets a chance to come on Sacred+ or something to tell his story. Would be worthwhile I think, Colin.

Noah Friscopp

I think you totally misunderstood my entire comment. I'm not saying I don't understand the difference. I'm asking what the problem is? What is the problem for Xbox worthy of criticism thats been a direct result of that difference?

Liz Folley

Thank you. <3

Colin Moriarty

Man, it's that time of year for 'you people' isn't it.

Colin Moriarty

Crawling.

Colin Moriarty

I don't really know how else to explain this, respectfully. If there are two entities, and one largely created, matured, and sustained its product with consistent internal performance, and the other simply buys bits and bobs to do the same thing... I think it's weird that you'd think there's no difference. If Matt Booty and Phil Spencer aren't responsible for Xbox's lack of games, then who is?

Colin Moriarty

That's why I just pay whatever they tell me and just be done with it. Like, fuck off. Scary assholes they are!

Colin Moriarty

Me too.

Colin Moriarty

The call in show was great, we need more of these. As it’s sets a different tone for conversation. It gives that good ol’ radio chat show itch.

In my office, 4:30am, tax attorney, listening to this tax talk; and yeah, me too Colin and Dustin. Me too … haha

Jeffery Carlson

Colin, I see you getting closer and closer to Persona 5. Do it.

NeO JD

The multiple endings of Cyberpunk 2077 all made me cry actually. I’d grown so connected to V and Johnny

Excited to give this a full listen! I'm quite confused on the purpose of the first call-in though and would love some further explanation from someone. They talk about respecting certain gaming companies (ps, nintendo) and not others (xbox) for their development and business strategies. They also refer to Xbox strategy as a problem and frame comments as "criticisms". My question is, what is the problem? What is the problem that we're criticizing? Is it the purchasing of studios to make games for the platform? What is the problem with that strategy versus purchasing studios that you worked with from A-Z to make games for the platform? Trying to understand what exactly it is we don't respect Xbox for or dismiss them / give "Valid Critisism" (Dustin) for? Thanks!! ***would also like to point out that the caller WILDLY misconstrued the Matt Booty / Psyoddysey event and then Colin doubled down by saying the buck should stop with someone over... what?***

Liz Folley

I hate taxes so much. I just paid the first quarter of 2023 and still dealing with the city for the year of 2021. It’s been a disaster for 195 dollars. It’s the most minuet amount of money too. I’m giving the treasury fifty times that amount every quarter. It’s so complicated and absurd.

Michael Mashpotato

Would love to hear more about the first caller’s journey front janitor to game designer!

Jacob R.

Colin, was The Last of Us 2 moment that made you well up the broken watch?
