Just finished listening to episode 93 of sacred symbols + omg this is amazing I'm so happy to jump on the Colin and jaffy train I'm gettith through them all. I agree with Colin this is pure Gold and I think there is defo a show of itself here with them both, could listen all day. We demand a permanent Colin x Jaffy show always 😊

Clarence Boddicker

God I love Jaffe SO much. Such an authentic person and great conversationalist. Another great pod guys

This is an amazing cauldron mix of an elixir that fully heals the damaged soul.

It's odd how often Jaffe veers into insulting and condescending talk about religion and religious folk... Really wish he didn't do that. Good talk besides that. His energy is always infectious and Colin and him have a good dynamic.

Michael G

"It's not 2D so it's not street fighter." It's a pretty 'old man yells at clouds' take tbh. And I'm an absolute Megafan of SF2 and Alpha. Still play them at my local arcade pub every chance I get. But SF6 fighting animations and effects are absolutely jaw dropping.

Daniel Schiffer

You're a fan not a fanboy - boy implies an immature perspective/relationship and denotes and seperates itself from a regular fan in that way. The urban dictionary definition is closer to the popular and common definition of a fanboy. Oxford is outdated.

Daniel Schiffer

Jaffe offers an interesting perspective on gaming...but when he steers onto policies and religion throwing shots at "right wings & priests" it's clear he has no idea what he is talking about. Kind of cringe

Chris King

Agree to disagree. Maybe cause I'm older...but it wasn't always such a negative term. Probably why the Oxford definition is as such: "a male fan, especially one who is obsessive about comics, music, movies, or science fiction."

Ryan Zimm

I've always found Jaffe entertaining, and unpredictable in the best way. But I've never seen him this patient and poignant. This conversation covered a ridiculous breadth of topics, all important to the modern era of gaming.

Great episode. Always enjoying hearing from jaffe. Not sure that he’ll ever see this. But as someone who is a fan of both Last Stand Media and Kinda Funny, i wanted to clarify to David that the vast majority of kinda funny fans are VERY aware that on-camera Greg is a character. It’s even discussed on kinda funny content. Not saying people need to like the character or anything like that. But Colin had it right.

Michael Kurzer

Jaffe is a beautiful mind. I enjoy his ability to add color and talk through shades of gray around issues.

Mike Collins

Please somehow make Jaffe a permanent SS crew member

Jaffe's defense of AI created art being as worthy of admiration as human created art is a reflection, in a way, of what I think is crumbling the sanctity of many things in this world. The difference is skill. Appreciation for ones ability to make their ideas real by their own doing, rather than have a machine do it for them. Its the same reason why people want homemade noodles instead of easier to acquire boxed versions. Why bakeries make their own dough instead of getting a portion of a massive batch sent to them by Sysco. Part of why the original painting is more valuable and coveted than the prints. Why a handmade knife made by a skilled craftsman is better than the chef's knife you get in a set. Its also why its sharper, better looking, and more durable. Society as a whole has seemingly thrown away skilled professionals and artisans for sterile manufacturing, and the end justifies the means. This ideology of just wanting something and not caring how it came to be has created a situation in which people do not care about or admire skills. All they really care about is getting what they want, and they couldn't care less if in doing so they kneecap humanity's capability, creativity, or independence from such machines which have helped us get this far. Merit apparently isn't part of the equation for some people anymore. It points to an underlying thought process that typically has me at odds with Jaffe on a number of what I would consider very important topics, both in and out of gaming. I think its just a disconnect he has with cause and effect, which is why he thinks GP is a good thing and doesn't see the issues it will cause. Especially if MS is subsidizing it with non-xbox money.

Fanboy was always derogatory, just like white boy. The word boy in the name implies a childish immature nature. That's why its there. The term fanboy has always been used to describe someone who is overzealous and sees their chosen subject of fandom as infallible. There are diehard fans of the Browns who suffer every year yet still root for the team. They call out bad moves by the front office, they curse the coaches when they mess up, they berate players who continually fail and do not improve. Then there are the Browns fanboys who think every year is "THE year", that all ref calls against the team are bad and all against their opponent are good, that every draft pick is gonna be an impact player. There are distinct differences between what I would call diehard fans, and fanboys. Everyone knows these people and can see the differences between them, unless they're a fanboy lol

Sorta Serious Gaming

Yea its really off-putting. 4 wasn't as bad but it was the beginning of this ugly style. The cringe dialogue exudes the worst of their "style". The gameplay itself is great I'm sure, but its so god awful to look at I'll be waiting for a sale and serious itch that needs scratched before I get it.

Sorta Serious Gaming

They all have exaggerated features. cammy/chun legs/ass, ryu/kens biceps, guiles entire physique and hair. Luke has big forearms but I feel like the exaggeration has always been apart of the art style

Maxx Lazos

I dont know, man. The game is fantastic....but the art style is so off putting. Luke's forearms alone might be the worst design choice I've seen this yeae

Ryan Zimm

Colin’s take on street fighter is arguably his most boomer take. love you col :)

Maxx Lazos

Jaffe is amazing

Jamil Bhatti

Colin is the man

Some feedback for Colin. I actually take your game specific feedback or review thoughts with a grain of salt. Not because you aren’t knowledgeable, but because we both have very different subjective taste. I align more with Dustin and Chris for those conversations. I absolutely love your insight on the industry itself though. I think you do as good a job as possible at stepping back and looking at the brand/market separate from your personal interests. Long winded way of saying just keep going :)

Tim Jackson

Babe, wake up. New Moriarty X Jaffe dropped

Jordan Knepp

The later tail end of the conversation sparked a fierce debate in my mind from art school when photoshop was being taken into question, and where the proper credit was given when it came to the final product. Was the art in the creator's idea or did it belong more to the software that generated imagery that was made with little input by the user? Although the process for making our imaginations a reality has become easier, has it come at a cost? I believe it has in a number of ways and when push comes to shove I'll happily pay more for something if it came from somebody with years of experience in that medium than a cheaper product made by a program, even if the end result looks strikingly identical. Anyway I'm rambling, good show guys.

Surge!

I misread "fanboys" as "femboys" and was expecting a VERY different conversation

Superhero Jagganath

He loves those symbols, he lives and breathes them. They are... Sacred Symbols to him you could say..... And that's fine, there's nothing wrong with being a hardcore fan of something. He isn't afraid to criticize them and that's what separate's him from the "cult like" fanboys most people think of when they hear the term. I just think over time the definition has become tainted. A fanboy or girl used to just mean a mega fan of something. Now people think of it as brain rotted to the point of making excuses for a brand/product no matter what, and while that is vastly true of most "fanboys" id argue not all are like that. Though because of the taint i can see why someone would not want that term applied to them. I don't want to be mixed in with the Nintendo worshippers, even though their exclusives (mainly zelda) are the only console games im interested in. But technically that DOES make me a Nintendo/Zelda fanboy even though i was HIGHLY sceptical of Tears re-using the map before it came out. Interesting combo and conversation as always.

Stinkling

Honestly because you enjoyed Batboy I think you would Love Panzer Paladin but it is a shame it's stuck on the switch but I think Panzer Paladin is very inspired by Shovel Knight as well

Blake Wall

Colin...a make a wish kid LMAO I love Jaffe

DB Cooper

Love Jaffe episodes. More more more.

Remington Wilson

Jaffe is one of those guys who thinks being intelligent and informed is just "looking at the facts" and anyone who disagrees with him on certain things "just doesn't have the right facts." No, he just doesn't understand that he's bad at placing trust. He seems to fail to realize how little factual evidence there is for so much shit he spouts off on with an edgelord's lip. He's a child of the state and so he thinks that the official facts are settled and he is comfortable in his disresponsibility in a meaningless life. It's cute that he thinks the only basis for any kind of faith system is that it is comforting. He doesn't acknowledge the fact that being a person of faith, one must attempt to confront the inherent responsibility therein. Not to mention the mountains of evidence that go against the mainstream narrative. Theoretical science is religion for idiots who want to think they are smart.

PRETENTIEUX

👌

Hozi

ok so i was right, playstation had more than 3.5 mill concurrent live viewers for its showcase. thanks for the article. great numbers for summer games fest overall though.

iain mcmanus

yes, always a must watch with jaffe involved!

Dick Justice

you're right they did not get 25, they got 27million!!

Dick Justice

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/summer-game-fest-says-it-attracted-a-record-number-of-viewers-in-2022/ Playstation MAY very well have more concurrent views but overall views? I mean, it's possible but we don't have those numbers.

David Jaffe

I think my personal definition of "fanboy" is just different from Colin's (and possibly the majority of people). I think there are degrees of fanboyism. I love the band Coheed and Cambria, and I get excited whenever they announce anything. But if they do something new, and I'm not into, I won't pretend to like it. I still think it's fair to call me a Coheed Fanboy. In that same regard, I 100% consider Colin to be a Playstation Fanboy. But a rational, non-toxic one. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. But when you purposely avoid other consoles if you can. To me, that makes you a Fanboy On the other hand, you have the extreme fanboys. Colin is definitely not that type. Colin doesn't claim that everything Xbox or Nintendo sucks, and he doesn't claim everything PS is great. I guess it's just semantics. But going off of the Oxford dictionary definition....I think we are ALL fanboys for simply subscribing to a gaming podcast. Thanks for the content!

Ryan Zimm

summer games fest did not get 25 million streams. jaffe needs to show his work on those numbers. sony had way more concurrent viewers and views overall

iain mcmanus

The guy that worked for PS is the Xbot lol. This will be a fun episode. Hopefully SS and the Dukes do a joint "reacts" to the Xbox showcase. Always fun seeing what all sides think.
