Sacred Symbols, Episode 268 | Baldur's Great

In early September, prominent CRPG Baldur's Gate III migrates from PC to PlayStation 5, and it sounds like it may just be what the doctor ordered. A deep role-playing experience chock-full of choice and consequence -- and layered with a thick patina of polish -- could potentially sell millions of copies on PS5. Will it stem the tide until Spider-Man 2 arrives? And will the critically acclaimed, purportedly amazing experience successfully migrate to console? Other news this week includes new release dates for Assassin's Creed: Mirage and Alan Wake II, the reveal of new TMNT and South Park games, a horrible-looking Walking Dead title arriving this fall, and an inopportune quote from Yoshi-P that unintentionally fed the fanboys. Listener inquiries round things out, per usual. Why do people encumber themselves with a backlog? How do we navigate our personal relationships when it comes to the time necessary to play games? Is Sony's silence starting to become conspicuous? Will Colin strike back on Dustin's bad take-calling?

Nakano Broadway in Tokyo might be worth checking out.

Hey Colin, just a small correction at about 2:29:40 where you say the licensing money helped Baldur's Gate 3 become what it is -- but the Director of Publishing at Larian Studios alluded to the idea that Wizards of the Coast (Owners of the DND license) did not fund the game https://twitter.com/Cromwelp/status/1690171362655002624?t=J75neZ26immPyPbybUi-Jw&s=19

LSM’s thumbnail game is unmatched in the industry

Katana Silver

Nice factoid at the end there. Normally woulda missed it, but the episode ended in the middle of doin the dishes at work. I wonder how often they have post credit scenes?! #secretasianman

2003 TMNT intro song is legendary

“Micah Moriarty” is a fantastic name

After the "community's" reaction to their last Showcase, PlayStation would be better served not saying anything. Why release a tease, trailer, or date for a product just so a bunch of industry nerds can pick it apart after one viewing? Yeah, Foam Stars looks kinda wack, but folks gotta chill. The so called core will always have something negative to say, but the majority of fans are pretty happy and for good reason.

Dennis Johnson

As a legit fan of TWD (All of it) the fact that they refuse to give us an actual quality game is ridiculous.

That thumbnail, lol

I'm afraid you're all wrong. Potato Pavè is, in fact, the perfect potato dish. To be fair though, it's really just butter and cream suspended in a potato matrix. It's perfect. The Hasselback potato is also acceptable.

MDoftheNorth

Nice to hear the Helmet praise 🤘

There's Nintendo store in osaka train station but it's not worth it , not much inside, super crowded, so you'll need a ticket to get inside and then you'll experience massive que of foreign adults and Japanese kids.

Colin: Chris are we going to see each other in... ah... Metropolis? Chris: no...no I can't.

Man Colin was right on the money about the baldurs gate 3 metacritic. The same exact thing happened with elden ring where it got a really high metacritic for reviewers only playing like the first 50 hours not realizing a lot of flaws pop up later and being under the peer pressure of not wanting to go against an already high metacritic Also there is this culture in games today where if a good game gets an extremely high meta critic a lot of people push it as the greatest thing ever just to feel like they are apart of a special moment. It’s why every 5 minutes there’s a game being pushed as the greatest thing ever. Anyone remember deathloop? Lol

Big titty drinker

Colin just dumping out all those bad takes at once. 😄

I wish hadn’t Googled Planet of the Bass so early in the morning… I wasn’t prepared.

As Colin is self-described Irish and Italian, Potatoes & Tomatoes flow through his blood, so I'm disappointed he thought they originate from NA. I physically recoiled and uncontrollably yelled stand down when listening, because Potatoes and Tomatoes are both from South America, specifically the Andes. They're so closely related in origin they actually share the same diseases. As an aspiring botanist I thought Colin would appreciate that!

WhatDarrenPlays

93’. No love for the the Turtles, although I would occasionally catch scenes when it aired on cable. My older siblings and cousins (> 5 years) do have an affinity for the property. It’s funny that Chris notes that DBZ and Spider-Man is what kept his interest, because that’s literally what I was thinking - DBZ, Spider-Man, Toonami anime, is what I was obsessed with.

Jesse V

Born at the end of 1994 here. My siblings and I rented the live-action TMNT movies several times when we were young, but I never really engaged with the franchise much more than that.

Joseph Gedgaudas

Born in ‘91 and couldn’t give two damns about TMNT.

Zackery Parkerson

Wasn’t expecting a Dashboard Confessional reference

Secret Asian Man 🤣 Always appreciate the secret endings, which are increasingly rare.

Missed the super perils drop 🫠 any plans to sell the ones you put aside? 😅
