Sacred Symbols+, Episode 322 | A Spoiler-Free Primer on Baldur's Gate 3

It's been clear for the past few years that Baldur's Gate 3 was going to be a special game for fans of the series and fans of Larian Studios, particularly after the success of Divinity: Original Sin 2. The more unpredictable part was how it managed to become a mainstream hit, becoming one of the biggest game launches in Steam history. In just a few weeks from now, Baldur's Gate 3 will make its debut to a new audience on PlayStation 5. This got me, Dustin, thinking. Surely many of you in the audience were like me: interested in the game due to its insane critical success, but also concerned since it's a style of RPG that you're not used to. I realized this was a perfect opportunity to do a primer episode about the game along with a series expert, our very own Lockmort! Lockmort's favorite game is Baldur's Gate 2, and he already has dozens of hours into the PC release of Baldur's Gate 3. So the intent of this episode is twofold: first, to answer the question, 'Should I check out Baldur's Gate 3 on PlayStation 5 despite my concerns?' and second, if you just want to hear Lock and me talk about how impressed we are with the game. A reminder that this conversation is spoiler-free, so there's no need to worry about ruining anything about the game. Please enjoy!

500 hours and hadn't finished a full playthrough? 😲 As someone who barely gets a few hours a week to play, this is terrifying to hear

Aaron Barnes

Absolutely

Oh man, I wish I listened to this before starting it coz I chose The Dark Urge 🀣 I might park that playthrough and do a different character for my first full playthrough

Aaron Barnes

Haven’t pulled the trigger yet lol. I went with FF16 instead

Glen Yelenovic

How did it go?

Aladin_Run

Great episode. I’m still on the fence but leaning more toward giving it a try. The X-Com comparison is very intriguing

Glen Yelenovic

I was very much on the fence , but after hearing this , I think I’m gunna pick it up and give it a try ! Thanks guys

I've been a big CRPG guy since I was a kid. My best friend's dad had a ton of them. The original Fallout games on PC were some of the first I played. I honestly prefer them to the Bethesda ones.

I think I'm gonna be day 1 on this one. Divinity 2 was a hard nut to crack and I tried so many times but fell out. I want to excel in these types of games so bad. AC6, Lies of P, Lords of the fallen...don't know where I'm going to find the time....too many games out at once. That I like at least.

Stewy108

Got me closer, Dustin. Got me closer.

Nathan Densley

Could listen to Lock talk about anything. More Lock on more shows please.

Dante B

Thanks for this! I was wondering about controller support, so it was good to hear about how Lock organizes the wheels. Hope you all do spoilercasts in the future.

Jimmy G

Great episode. Exactly what I was looking for as release approaches and in a game lull at the moment. As someone who played 1 & 2 at launch, good to hear the controller works well

Jeffery Carlson

Belgiums prince

Jack Doheny

Please bring lock to more shows about whatever. I just love hearing his voice.

Asique Alam

I have nearly 500 hours of playing this game. Most of it is early access but at least 100 is from full release. I've been playing nearly every day since full release and I still haven't finished my first playthrough.

Wesley S.

This is a perfect episode for me - I've never really tried this kind of RPG, but the reception the game has gotten has really got me intrigued. Looking forward to listening

Deemac

Nice!

Michael Welter

agreed.

Dustin Furman

More Lock is a good thing πŸ‘πŸ‘

Stewy108

β€œA style of RPG that you’re not used to” It’d be cool to see a fellow fan of CRPGs on the show once in a while, it’s literally my favorite genre :)
