As usual, topics are varied. Micah wants to discuss homesickness, how it's affected us in the past, and whether we long to go back to where we come from. (Naturally, such a personal topic veers widely into parallel conversations.) Gene chronicles his years of social media activity, and wonders whether such wide exposure has been a net positive or negative for us as individuals, and for the greater whole. Dagan has a bone to pick with hipsters... or does he? After all, what does the word even mean? What does such a connotation say about a person? Is it an insult, a compliment, or perhaps a misnomer entirely? Finally, Colin caps things off with some light fare: The best gaming controller. Which input device from the annals of history speaks to us most? Funnily enough, we have four entirely separate answers to share.

2023-09-14 00:44:08 +0000 UTCColin's inability to understand what ADD is has gotten to the point that it's physically painful when I hear "I used to HYPERFOCUS and write 2000 word strategy guides on games, you don't see people with ADD doing that, but I'm not extra smart or anything I didn't pay attention to math and things I wasn't interested in". My brother in christ the actual literal central tenet of ADD is hyperfixation on specific interests and inability to focus on things that don't interest you. I can zone in and play guitar for 8 hours straight uninterrupted but I can't sit through a 30 minute show straight. The staunch refusal to understand that ADD isn't just bouncing off the walls is frustrating to hear repeatedly out of someone as intelligent as Papa C

Seriously though, the mini guide book that came with the pre-order edition was amazing and handy back in the day. Despite the cheap ink that rubbed off on your hands.

I started listening to Run the Jewels a few years ago, and they have four albums called RTJ 1-4, so naturally I listen to RTJ4 first, then 3, 2, and ended with the first album.

2023-09-13 16:34:32 +0000 UTCone of the intricacies of the Hipster conversation that the group didn't really touch on once Colin started on the topic, is that to be a Hipster is to take something uncool and swear on your life that it is the coolest thing ever. Taking the Mario RPG example, the new Mario RPG will be the hot new shit, but a hipster would only play the old one claiming that it is so much better and things were lost in the process of updating, and they would refuse to play the new one because it was beneath them. All of these statements would come out while they had probably never played either Mario RPGs until people started talking about the new one. That is the essence of being a Hipster that was lost in the conversation. Regarding controllers, I have no idea why all the hate for the Sixaxis PS3 controller? I love how light it is, I don't know why people think it's "too light", I forget that I'm holding it and it just melts into my hand, I rarely forget that I'm holding my PS4/5 controller because the addition weight reminds me I'm holding a thing that I've got to deal with, the Sixaxis becomes a natural part of my hands. I don't need rumble, I don't need travel on my shoulder buttons/triggers, and the Start/Select buttons are in a perfectly ergonomic place to reach to, I'm constantly fumbling around trying to find the Options button and I usually hit the corner of the touchpad instead. Finally, it's symmetrical, I've never hit my thumbs together because the analogue sticks are too close together, it's unnatural to have one thumb going in one direction but doing the same action as my other thumb going off in a different direction, I'd rather the Xbox controller took the design of the Wii U Pro controller, It's so much nicer to hold.

Same on the sports thing, I am a fan of Colin but holy hell that's a HUGE gate he's got over there haha. Basically there are only a few fans of any given team and everyone else should stop pretending and leave it alone.......I'm sure the sports will survive once the fake fans go away, it's only maybe 99% of the populous. 😂

Favorite console controller though is the Xbox One Elite controller, I've had one since they first came out and use it for PC and Xbox whenever I play a game that needs a controller. On PC I typically play with mouse and keyboard unless it's a controller style game. I like the MATERIALS of the DS4 controller, and it's the first PS controller that I thought was nice to use. The Elite controller is still far superior to me though, it's a shame that PS never went with the offset stick setup. Most hated controller...PS3 controller without the rumble. You've gotta be fucking kidding me with that thing lol. Also shout out to the great Dreamcast and Saturn UFO controllers.
