Khayl is an Australian games journalist who writes for an outlet you'll undoubtedly recognize if you listen to Sacred Symbols: Push Square. We love Push Square, and we're happy to have him on our program. He and I (Colin) sat down from across the world (that's still pretty remarkable, when you think about it) to chat about the current state of games journalism, where it succeeds and fails, what the next chapters might look like, and how some websites are still doing things the right way. We're often hard on games media here on this show, and rightfully so, I think. But it would be dishonest to say it's all bad out there. That's not true, either. But even if done the right way, however we define it, time inexorably marches on. The only real question is -- at the nexus of modern economics and an ever-changing online landscape -- if media outlets as we once (and still, for now) understand them can realistically survive beyond the near-future.

Can you blame people for distancing themselves from a conservative even though that specific conservative ie Colin might not be a bigot? Their entire base has been tainted and their leaders and the vast majority of their followers actively promote and endorse that garbage. Cant really blame someone for going "ew" when someone says they are a conservative, the hate and low iq anti science stuff is exactly what comes to mind when someone says, "conservative" or "right wing" The conservative pool has been thoroughly pissed in, and until they clean it up the majority of peoples reactions to labelling yourself that way is going to be "ew"

2023-09-24 11:06:22 +0000 UTCI remember when no one thought Ron Paul was going to win, so it was just looked at as "aww, that's cute" when someone supported him. Nowadays, what does it mean to be a Republican or a conservative? Is it about being anti-"woke"? Is it about being pro-Trump? Perhaps it's up to people on the right to define themselves because right now they leave a lot to be desired when it comes to working with them in the same space.

2023-09-23 21:04:08 +0000 UTCIt didn't come up explicitly, but as a turn-based strategy game enthusiast, I would be interested to hear Khayl's perspective on Little Lamplighter's League if he ends up playing it. From the brief previews I have seen, it looks very promising. However, I fully expect it to fly under the radar and get little in the way of coverage in this hectic release window.
