This week, the Brothers Moriarty are joined by Punching Up co-host Micah Watson and LSM associate producer Ben Smith. Two of the four topics this week flow into each other rather naturally, and so we opted to start there. Micah inquires as to our respective online shopping habits, and specifically what we'd consider the negatives to the universal convenience of click-to-buy commerce. Funneling into that is Ben's topic, warranties on the more expensive items we acquire. Are we willing to pay the upfront extra cost to protect our investments, or would we rather roll the dice? Speaking of spending money, Dagan's topic concerns America's increasingly-aggressive culture of tipping. Where do we draw the line? Finally, with their nuptials just weeks away, Colin prods Dagan and Ben on his and Micah's behalf for their advice for a happy, healthy, and fruitful marriage.

Don't you understand that each time you order online you're dealing with different individuals, barely touching your package, for literal seconds? And said-people are probably dealing with constant understaffing, low pay, long hours, backbreaking work, bad benefits, and forced, unrealistic production goals? You talk about online shopping as if each time you order you're getting the same employees or some sort of amalgam of the company that even remembers who you are. All companies have shitty and good employees. Have a little grace and empathy if something goes wrong. I swear, at least one topic every episode is now a reminder of how distanced Colin has become from the blue-collar worker that he constantly claims to be able to relate to. Constellation is quickly becoming "first-world problems: the show." Try talking about what Disney princesses you'd bang once in awhile.

2023-10-13 15:20:49 +0000 UTCI moved to Finland from the US about a year ago and no tipping has been great. The service from wait staff isn’t the same but it definitely doesn’t suck. I’d argue I prefer this type of service knowing they get a fair wage and don’t have to break their back being overbearingly nice to people all day in order to make a living. There is more self service, like how water is commonly given to you once in a big pitcher so your waiter doesn’t have to top off your glass every time you take a sip. With no tipping, you interact less with the staff, know exactly how much the meal will be, and most importantly don’t have to do math at the end of each meal 😁

Specifically a returned copy where a person swapped the cartridge sticker and returned a Pokemon sword copy. What made it more complicated to return was the 3 day return period had expired as I was waiting for an upcoming patch to fix the game. So I had to fight customer service for several days to get Amazon credit back.

I’m creating a handheld, I don’t care about the economics, I’m the boss I’m making Vita 2. 3. This one is silly and not meant to be taken seriously, I would back up the brinks truck, I mean back it up. I’m talking a couple billion to get Pokemon on PS. That it. That’s my dream, finally Pokemon would run well 😂😂 (don’t take serious)

I'm far from rich so I don't just throw money around, but I will absolutely go out of my way to reward excellent over-the-top service. HOWEVER...if I myself come to pick up some food, or I'm ordering a coffee/tea and you hand me that little thing and ask if I'd like to tip...I will look you DEEP in the eyes and hit the 'fuck...no' button. If you'd like, we can press it together, maybe have a moment. Like I'm boo-boo the fool over here. I also agree with Micah about the salon/barber tipping nonsense, just charge me the actual price. Dagan, you need to stop being a sucker lol. <3

2023-10-10 18:47:01 +0000 UTCCooks are probably the most thankless job in history. The absolute IRONY of servers NOT tipping the kitchen or bussers is amazing. Tipping culture should be abolished. I was a chef for 10 years. I worked in western Canada where servers would make minimum wage plus their tips. Cooks made maybe 1 or 2 dollars more than minimum. This isn't some crappy restaurant either. You needed to go to school to be able to cook this food. Restaurants can run just fine if the servers don't show up for work. I've had that happen a few times. Myself or another cook would jump on the floor and take orders. Restaurants SHUT DOWN full stop if no cooks show up. Lets be real also. 80% of servers just phone it in these days. Why do they deserve like 300% more money that all the people enabling them to make those tips?

2023-10-09 17:07:59 +0000 UTCThe warranty conversation. I haven't paid full retail price for headphones in years. I used to get best buy extended warranty on them, and when they broke, exchange them. Then I got total tech, and I've been slowly working my way up to some bose headphones. See you don't have to exchange for the same thing. And if what you want is more expensive, you just pay the difference. Like if your broken headphones cost you $200, and the ones you want are $500$, you only pay the $300 difference.
