Constellation, Episode 45 | Taking A Break From Gaming, Politics With Family, Golden Eras, Forcing Change

It's time for another episode of Constellation, Last Stand Media's conversational podcast. This week, the Brothers Moriarty are joined by the cast of Defining Duke, MrMattyPlays and Lord Cognito. As usual, we wind through a variety of topics, beginning with a big one: Change. Matty explores the ways his life has morphed, and how it needs to continue to adapt if he's to sustain his perfect pocket of happiness. Spurred on by something Chris Ray Gun noted in passing on Sacred Symbols a few weeks ago, Colin is curious how the cast feels about taking a hiatus from our gaming obsessions. Considering our jobs, are we able to escape the grind? Do we even want to? Cog, meanwhile, is feeling nostalgic. He wonders which eras of our lives -- and in what capacity, whether with sports, or friends, or music, or games, or whatever -- are most precious to us? Finally, Dagan wraps things up with a political topic, at least kinda. With the holiday season nigh, are we prepared for the inevitable partisanship that may ensue around the dinner table?

Is there some sort of background noise at 1 hour 40 mins when cog is talking? Sounds like a payphone "please hang up and try again". Freaked me the fuck out

Nicholai

I would totally watch/listen to a show where Matty watches a flick for the first time, and Colin/Dagan talk with him about it. More importantly, I would pay for that.

I get you. I think he mentioned in a prior episode that he empathizes with Israel a lot having grown up around heavily Jewish communities in Long Island, but that he still holds to the idea that the U.S. shouldn't be intervening by going to war

It’s always weird hearing the guys talking about losing relevancy when I come to the shows just to hear from them. We’re all growing old together. I think most of us will stick around as long the content is consistent. Hear all about these guy changing diapers soon enough. 😄

Punk’s not dead! The real shit is just underground, where it should be. Check out Show Me the Body, Sunami, Soul Glo, Scowl…

Wouldn’t mind hearing more about Colin’s stance on Israel on another episode. I assumed he’d be more neutral considering his change of view on the Iraq war etc. Good ep as per

Dan Morgan

Matty you’re way to young to be thinking like you do. You grind now so once you hit your 40’s/50’s things are on cruise control.

The Central Long Islander

Loved hearing more about Cog’s story during the first topic! Just a really interesting guy - love the variety of voices that have steadily appeared over the years at LSM. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, there’s no weak link at LSM to my eye.

Yes Dagan, that family that all talks politics without arguing because they all think the exact same way does exist. It's mine!

The '90s were the Golden Era. I feel special that I was there. The fall of the Soviet Union, a booming economy; video rental stores and the start of the DVD era; the early internet and cell phones; SEGA vs. Nintendo and the rise of PlayStation; Seinfeld. Yes, part of it may be the nostalgia of youth, but I think the '90s were an objectively special time and I will always miss them.

In regards to the voting issue here in Australia, while it is technically compulsory, you still need to register to vote just like in the US. And if you never register, you never have to vote. I know a couple people my age (late 30’s) or older, who just never registered when they turned 18 and have never voted since. And while I suppose if you get found out you can get in trouble or fined or whatever, I’ve never heard of that ever happening.

I moved from Williamsburg to Allentown 2 weeks after the subway World Series in 2000. Those were golden days for me. I remember collecting the daily news cartoon art prints of the star players of the Mets and Yankees. My last NYC memory was going to the Yankee parade in Mets gear. Those were fucking awesome times 🙌

Beat it Ryan

LinkaFresh

I love the freedom to not care. We don’t all need the weight of the worlds problems on our shoulders

Reon Williams

I turn off the show when Colin starts talking about how hard he works or how good of a boy he is. Absolutely unlistenable

Ryan

I agree, Cog is the best.

StewDog

Ahhh heck ya. Excited for this group!

Johnny Lamotte

Cognito on Constellation is always a win! 🙌
