We were told we don't have to see the show to watch these movies - if that's not true let us know :). These 2 movie options were the most popular in the last movie post so we want to decide between them.

Samurai champloo has a movie?

2019-12-10 22:00:27 +0000 UTCHey double dragon! if you guys read this please note that like Nathan Prioli said, both of these movies are poor choices to watch if you haven't watched the source material first. Both movies are stand alone movies, meaning that they stories are seperate from the anime, but tha doesn't mean that that characters or their relationship aren't. Would you watch any of the latest one piece movies? all one piece movies are standalone but you wouldnt understand the characters or their motivations wouldn't having some context from the anime. I think a good replacement for the samurai shampoo movie is a another samurai movie, one that doesn't require the source material to watch. The 2 greatest samurai anime movies in my opinion are, Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal (https://myanimelist.net/anime/44) or, Sword of the stranger (https://myanimelist.net/anime/2418, both of these hold a 8.3 and 8.7 meta critic score on MAL, meaning both are withing the top 5 percent of most watched anime. as for a good replacement for Cowboy bebop, not sure, maybe one of the Ghost in the Shell movies?

Just because technically you can watch them without watching the anime because they're not part of the ongoing plot doesn't mean you'll care at all about the characters. There are plenty of actual standalone anime movies that would work way better imo
