Ik am late but, luffy was hiding his emotions about merry by laughing about it and smiling even tho he was hurt deep inside like everyone else but as a captain he can't be giving up to his emotions; until it happened in this eps lol

you can see luffy getting pissed off when ussop just keeps disrespecting luffy by not understanding that luffy is also hurting about the ship and he is just being selfish. Luffy never thought ussop was a burden to the crew.

Nakama is “friend”, it’s a companion or a friend that you see as family so either way usopp still wanted to cut his ties with the WHOLE crew....not just luffy

Usopp didnt said chopper that they cant be friend no more... AGAIN FKING SUBS... He said we aren't NAKAMA no more, so go back to the ship (again nakama is crewmember/family, not friends... an example of this is Luffy and Usopp are great friends)

You guys are the best. However Luffy has to consider he has 2 other devil fruit users. He can’t take risks with the ship. It’s vital, he didn’t handle it well. Usopp got emotional. When emotions are high logic is low.

My interpretation is Luffy deliberately didn't tell Usopp they couldn't fix the Merry straight away because he himself didn't want to speak those words. Which is why it took some pushing and shoving from Usopp to get Luffy to finally be honest with Usopp and himself

And at the same time Luffy can't back down both because of his own pride but also because he is the captain and when he makes a serious decision like this he will stand his ground. If Usopp were to change his mind Luffy might forgive him, but Luffy can't waver.

I don't think there's really a way that this could've been explained to Usopp that he would've gone along with it. Usopp basically starts on a path of self destructive behavior to try and run away from the fact that Merry can't be repaired. When he learns about it, he denies it. When Luffy tries to explain it's what the craftsmen said, he tries to discredit them. When Luffy his own captain tries to convince him, he starts insulting him calling him weak willed and a quitter and even saying that Luffy doesn't really care about Merry. He even tries to completely ignore what Luffy is saying and just start repairing the ship himself. He refuses to accept it and when Luffy doesn't leave him any choice he decides that he's going to leave the crew so he can claim the ship for himself even though he knows he really can't win, but since he can't accept the Merry not being repairable he forces himself down that path.

You could probably think of a thousand ways this could of been avoided but in the end what happened is what happened and there’s no going around it. Also can we take a moment to appreciate the voice acting in this episode phenomenal.
