What? No way. Why do you think he was so heart broken after the fight. Usopp could be called the "fixer" of the ship, "the sniper" or a general handy man...but in all honesty, his "role" up until now has mostly been that he's Luffy's BEST FRIEND. Think about it: Nami is, well "a girl" and and obviously doesn't hang out with Luffy much - especially considering she's the most serious person on the crew in many ways. Sanji is mostly busy with cooking and has all his attention on the girls. Zoro is a bit on the colder side of a guy in how he acts and either trains or sleeps and Luffy even once said half jokingly that "Zoro is boring". Sure, Luffy is the captain, very charismatic and very strong - which Usopp all isn't. But at the end of the day they are both 17 year old clowns. Whether it's having snowball fights when it snows, or making cloud sculptures in the skies, doing dumb shit with the cannons, it's Usopp that Luffy spends all his play time with (Chopper joined those two once he joined but it's always been Luffy and Usopp from the very beginning) And that actually might have been a bit of an issue. From how the rest of the crew acts, it strongly feels like Usopp was the only one who would have ever stood up to Luffy the way he did. The others wouldn't do that. And that's because Usopp sees Luffy mostly as his best friend and not as his captain. In reverse, I think that's also why those words slipped Luffy's mouth and why Usopp was the only one Luffy would have ever said that to. Because he doesn't see him as a crewmate that he's responsible for as a captain - as much as the other crewmates. He truly sees him as a friend, too. You know how it is between friends when you fight. Things get heated, you go too far, you take things personal, you don't consider "responsibilities" or "tact" or stuff like that. And he was like "Bro...if you don't wanna do this with me then don't..." Which was just an emotional response, like anyone could have in the moment towards a close friend. It would just never get to this point with other crewmates because their dynamics would never lead up to this kind of situation (partially because - as stated before - no one would stand up to Luffy in that way to begin with) Whether you want to agree with me or not: next time you re-read or re-watch OP, look at their dynamic with that in mind and appreciate their friendship. They truly are best friends.

Like all the times Usopp claims he's the captain or tries to take credit for stuff, and if you go back he questions Luffy's decisions pretty often. Not blatantly, but he drops tons of "are you sure?" "I don't think we should do this" "really?" I took this statement to mean this argument and accusation of him making bad decisions is the last straw and he's had enough of Usopp's bs.

2020-03-29 07:02:57 +0000 UTCDamn, I forgot how heavy the post Ussop fight feels. I haven't reread/watched this in a while. I feel it with how it's just so much going on at once. It's honestly crazy seeing it all play out while even knowing what happens.
