I've been just been reading enough comments on here that expose a little too much lately and I snapped at this one even though yes it's only technically a spoiler. I don't know what these two have as a policy for this sort of stuff, I can't remember, just figured it was better to err on the side of caution "just in case" they decide they want to read the manga etc., in the future. Lol like I said, Luffy just like Goku is very intuitive in combat and battle, Naruto and Gon are like this as well. And you get to really see that here in the Blueno fight. This trait in Luffy and learning from his experiences in battle stays with him in the series, go back and rewatch Luffy vs Crocodile fight, Crocodile comments on this trait when he’s confused on where Luffy is getting all this strength from. Also know that people are gonna call it Gear 2nd growing up with it but you can call it whatever you want.

Luffy has way more moves than Zoro, you have no idea. Luffy’s wiki page is filled with attacks he invented and created on his own. And it’s only one writer, Eiichiro Oda that’s it. Go check a One Piece manga volume if you don’t believe me. The animators do add some filler scenes I’ll admit but 99% of the writing is Oda himself.

Gear 3rd is the only one that doesn’t make sense at all, go watch Tekking101s video. But despite that Gear 3rd is still cool and strong. But Gear 2nd is amazing and very well explained and makes sense along with other power ups in the series, so in general yeah most of the time your right.

And no they didn’t do it on purpose, Luffy is just imaginative and comes up with new moves on the spot all the time like Gum Gum Fireworks on Skypeia or Gum Gum Finger Net against Arlong, Gum Gum Bowgun on Wapol, Gum Gum Storm on Crocodile and so on throughout their series. He also did this twice of coming up with a new attack and new technique from past experiences and things when he came up with the idea for Gum Gum Pinwheel based on Genzo’s Pinwheel hat back on Arlong Park and now here with coming up with Gear 2nd based on the CP9’s techniques

One thing you should know about Oda is that he will always make power-ups make sense. You will eventually get an explanation of Gear 2nd/3rd and it will make sense. It may seem like Luffy pulled it out of his ass but I promise you, he didn’t.

You guys are great reactors, not just One Piece but like cool anime fans in general. I know the normal recipe is (train -> create new move -> use new move last second against final villain) but it won't always be that way. I won't pretend One Piece breaks all the norms or anything but it's actually more interesting this way sometimes. This could be considered the training of the new move. Where as sorry to use Naruto here but (Learn Sage Mode -> Use Sage Mode on boss) And somehow sage mode is perfected on first use in combat and its power can never be improved upon.

You guys need to stop your comparisons and dbz/naruto-like expectations onto one piece, because you will be highly disappointed. One piece is a different anime, oda doesnt follow that formula, about having training arcs and showing these power ups in real boss battles. Oda took inspiration from dbz but the way he does things are different and unpredictable. Btw, This power up is something luffy could do if he knew about it sooner. It has something to do with his devil fruit, it is kinda like shave but more on about his devil fruit and the possibilities of what rubber can do.

Luffy already knows Lucci is the strongest (which is why he said he wants to fight him) so think of him using gear second against Blueno as like a test warmup to see how effective it is

Luffy learned second gear by complete accident. It was in the one piece movie that happen before they arrived at Water Seven. The movie was called One piece: the Giant Mechanical Soldier of Karakuri Castle. Its an interesting movie with some good fights and fan-service from both Nami and Robin.

You're talking about Luffy not training or trying out his new move before using it on Blueno, but remember Luffy already was keeping up fine with Blueno before he used it. Since he already had the fight figured out, this basically was him training. He made Blueno into his training dummy.

Lit reactions dawgs. Really enjoyed! I feel your pain with them annoying characters like that three headed dude. Thankfully random ass characters like that sorta become less common as the series progresses, or at least Oda gets better at making them likeable. He loves making weird af characters sometimes. On one hand I hate it, but on the other it really makes the cooler characters stand out more.

His arms went all red in that like gear 2nd, its like seein the cp9 guys made that move click for him. Also wayyyy back when fighting arlong, he made attacks of just seein a dude with a pinweel hat. gear second is dope because seeing Luffy move that quick with moves that are already strong is amazing. Also, Luffy using this move on Blueno is kinda original becuase usually the MC would use it on the final villain, like yall expected. Luffy said he wanted to try something so it would make sense that he'd use it on Blueno as he was the first CP9 member to try and stop him
