One of the saddest moments in One Piece. For me, there are scenes in the future that hit even harder though. The emotional ride is real. Next arcs will be amazing too, enjoy it till you have to wait like the rest of us for weekly eps :)

Just something about viking funerals. It is believed to be rare that the boat would be put on fire with the deceased on water. Most commonly, people were buried or cremated on land, and it was considered prestigious to be buried with a boat and other kinds of valuables. You can go to viking museums in scandinavia and see real viking ships and objects, that has been excavated from e.g. burial mounds.

I think this was in an interview some years back but apparently Oda didn't kill Pell because the bombing episode (Pell's nuke) came out around the same time as 9/11 and it would have been in bad taste.

you can see how Luffy grows in this arc as a captain. He is a person that will never give up on his friends. Going against the world government to save Robin proves that. However, when it comes to Merry, he realized that he will put the entire crew at risk if he decided to keep merry in the journey

Oda didn't kill Pell because 9/11 just happened and he felt it wouldn't be appropriate to kill him off in that way at that time (Fun fact). Also love the reactions!

I think I remember hearing that the only reason Oda didn't kill off Pell was because of 9/11. He felt that it wasn't right to have someone in his story die in an explosion, near a tower (clock tower), given what happened in what was (at that time) recent events.
