World building can't exist without the context of the main story. The main plot have to carried forward alongside with the rest of the world that's why One Piece work perfectly. Kishimoto trying to do what Oda did with his new manga called Samurai 8 by stuffing so much of the lore and world building without anything to hold on and it failed miserably now it even being canceled.

The grandline is a strip of ocean, like a line, that spans the globe horizontally (Equator). The Redline is a gigantic and long strip of mountain, that spans the globe vertically (Prime Meridian). These lines, like a plus sign, divide the seemingly single giant ocean of their world into 4 parts (N,E,S,W Blue) plus the line of ocean that is grand line. I don't even think they know about Oda's former health worries and how he has admitted that for a year possibly years he just gets 3 hours a sleep on average working so hard and how his editor had to FORCE him to chill. About how Oda got ideas for strawhats and other characters: I don't know if someone told you this but Oda was inspired in his childhood by cartoon Wiki the wiking and wanted to write a manga about pirates. He started to draw designs and story arcs since then. There are designs of characters that you won't see even after five or six arcs from where you are now already drawn before start of one piece manga. Some designs altered, situations improvised and some plot points altered but basic story lines he wrote down in notebooks and kept with him. As story progressed he incorporated all the ideas he got later too. That is why it continued this long. About world building we too are like strawhats. As they move forward they learn more about world and we too except few times like episode in Jaya where he infodumps on us. Believe me when I say there are at least twenty or thirty side stories about other characters that people wants Oda to write in detail. The list increases as the story progresses.

you guys were right. The animation after thriller bark actually did change. From the beginning of the series to Thriller Bark, the character designer for the anime was a guy named Noboru Koizumi. As character designer, he's responsible for the overall artstyle of the anime. However, now he's been replaced by Kazuya Hisada. Hisada was a big animator back on Dragon Ball Z and has been with the One Piece anime since episode 1. He'll be the responsible for the anime's art direction all the way to right before the current arc of the anime (from 2009 to 2019). The worst thing One Piece did was remove the 1st explanation of One Piece globe in the episode where Luffy met the weird guy stuck in box, that's where they explained One piece globe in manga. And since than anime only people NEVER understood One Piece world properly. And these guys missed the explanation shown of it here

Just for the information, in one piece world redline is the biggest landmass that goes around the world like equator. And grandline is the ocean which goes around the globe perpendicular to redline. So redline and grandline meet at two points on either side of the globe. At one point we have twin capes where Laboon is there and another side has holy land marijos(spelling?) on top of redline and fishman island at sea floor.
