What I like about One Piece is that the villains all have real reasons and motivation for doing what they do. If you've ever seen "Into the Woods" they talk about how the hero of one story is the villain of another. I think One Piece could have a bunch of "off shoots" that follow the other random characters around and the Strawhats could wind up being the bad guys. Thats what makes this show so great.

That discussion at the end was heat. It’s awesome to see you guys rethink Arlong as a character after this episode. This type of thinking is needed for a story like One Piece. IDC what everyone says but Arlong is one of the most amazing justified bad guys.

There are few casual lines which were thrown since the earlier episodes which we discovered as foreshadowing after multiple readings. There is something Jeff told Luffy which makes sense around episode 596 or so. I will point it out then. That one I saw very few people talking about.

If you see episode 400 again, Rayleigh says child Hachi saved him and they were friends till Hachi joined Sun pirates. Luffy corrects him asking isn't it Arlong pirates. It was said so casually that even second time watching people also doesn't catch it with so much being revealed in that chapter.

Characters are so well developed. There's lots of flashbacks but they let you see what led to them being the characters they are. So many characters have had hard pasts, and it's so interesting to see what kind of person they became. Both world building and character building.

Oda really shines more when it comes to world building and revelations, I love how he does the fights but stuff like this episode is much more amazing, he knows how to hit the feels and how to make a character who once some hated or dislike become beloved once we see their backstories and know their reason to why they are who they are.
