Bon on the other hand is ride and die for Luffy all in the name of friendship. He's only second to Zoro for how much he's willing to sacrifice for Luffy. He will forever be more of a Strawhat to me then Vivi ever will.

But if I think now the bond between Bon chan and Luffy is different than that of Luffy and Vivi or his crew. Bon is more like Shanks to Luffy. Vivi and others except Zoro may be needed Luffy to be their pillar of support but Bon chan is like on equal grounds to Luffy in supporting him. I don't know whether I am able to convey but we should think of it like his bond with Shanks or even Ace. Like Zoro said at Water7 no matter how he behaved Luffy is captain and they are under him. But Bon chan is on equal grounds with Luffy now as a friend. Asking him to work under him will be like a step below I think. Just my opinion but when reading these chapters I too felt like he should be strawhat.
