In most mangas this is accomplished usually with a square speech bubble. Its annoying but on the other hand if they dont do that, you get shit like in DBZ where the characters are just reiterating shit they already know to dump exposition. How many hours of dbz is just mindless exposition chatter of the side characters on the side lines? In hxh its a disadvatage to say things out loud if someone knows how your power works they can figure out how to counter it. in hxh nen abilities are so varied and dependent on mental/physical state, with many abilities requiring specific contexts and contidions. So its important we know the mental/physical state of the combatants, how the abilities work, and the current objectives of the combatants and the setting in which they clash. Its a lot, but in the end having all of it allows you to fully appreciate the tactical situation at play in a nen battle. It makes it more satisfying when the writing comes together that makes sense in the context of the hxh world. Although I do agree the narrator could probably be little less wordy. Thats my full opinion on the mild narrator controversy.
