I think that both of you are correct in the logic you're using, but you're talking past each other. Amenz is talking about it in terms of if the characters didn't have plot armor; which one would have the bigger cheat code? Kurama isn't necessarily "plot armor" for Naruto, it's a fundamental part of his story. But Luffy getting random power boosts or getting randomly saved by others could be considered just plot armor. Lycan is saying that since both have ways of being saved, it's functionally the same, which is true in the world of anime.

Another difference between Luffy and Naruto is that Naruto having Kurama, there was only 8 other tail beasts in the entire world so Naruto's extra boost was uncommon, whereas almost everyone in the New World has devil fruits and haki that they have to train to use. Regardless of how strong the holder is, they still always have a kage level threat inside of them that can lend them power (hence why the Akatsuki all had to be S level ninja regardless if the beast was controllable by the user or not) but luffy needed to train his own power with nothing to fall back on if he's pushed to his limit.

This is definitely an aside here, and I do agree with you Krolliox... But over the last decade or so general audiences have started to flanderize the super saiyan transformation. As if it wasn't alluded to and foreshadowed throughout the entire arc and the Saiyan saga. People act like Gokus rise throughout the entire original DB to become the strongest person on earth just didn't exist. He earned the transformation. In fact I'll die on the hill that the "ssj bargain sale" that happened in the cell/buu saga kinda made sense too. Trunks unlocked it legitimately. And Vegeta will always need Goku as a measuring stick to motivate and overcome. The only iffy power scaling in the OG series was the Androids. Now everything post toriyama like GT and Super (yes, I know he has input) have at it. It's just a cash-in dlc.

For the 2nd topic I'm more with Amenz because Naruto has his own chakra and then a 2nd source which is Kurama chakra. So like two fuel tanks in one body for Naruto. Luffy's devil fruit and haki are more based on Luffy's energy and stamina so they’re working off one tank. So after Gear 4 during that time restriction he doesn't have a 2nd tank to pull energy from WITHIN himself. Will Power aside

Love the Discussions in the beginning keep them coming:) For the 1st topic discussed I agree with Lycan because on my 1st watch/read of the Arc I felt like I was getting a more serious/focus Luffy which showed more of his mental development To Me for him. As Amenz pointed out Luffy is always serious when it comes to his crew, but this is the First crewmate to need him After Sabaody, Ace, and Training with Rayleigh so this behavior is to be expected but hits me different and makes me happy to see from Luffy.

True. The man should've died to Buggy in Logue town but the way they're setting up Luffy it's almost like he has a prophecy or something where he HAS to live in order to accomplish something. Who knows maybe they'll execute him near the end of the show like Gold Roger.

What Luffy doesn't have that other MC do, its the last minute BS transformation, like SSJ, Jinchuriki cloak/mode, inner Hollow, something that comes out of nowhere and boost/saves the MC in a dire situation, while everything Luffy has DF+Haki, is something he worked his ass off to train/learn, true he has his friends the come and help him, but so do every anime MC, they always have their friends backing them up, so that ain't the same as a last minute power up.

DF + Haki is Luffy’s own power, and the playing field is leveled, when almost every other character has/can obtain/gain a DF/Haki. Luffy has no mysterious, special power that’s unique to him, not even his Conqueror’s Haki is unique. Naruto has his Jutsu, and at the same time, he has Kurama, which is it’s own separate entity that lends Naruto power. No other character gets to borrow this power.

I think Lycan was just saying that Luffy also has something that saves him in the end a lot of times. If it‘s getting saved by a friend, his C. Haki, Dragon, his rubber DF for tanking damage, his D in the name, his luck/fate or even having Roger‘s and Shanks strawhat. But I am more on Aymenz side in this one for sure.

Luffy develops extremely subtly over the course of the series. If you go back and watch early OP you will be surprised by just how much of an idiot he was at the start lol. He legit sucked with his powers at the start and would get stuck a lot. Oda very slowly stopped doing that and eventually Luffy just doesn't get stuck anymore. His intelligence develops so naturally its almost hard to notice it until you really look back

Just to add to what you guys are saying. Luffy doesn’t have a giant monster inside him that can give him an extra power up when he’s losing a battle, that has nothing to do with his own actual cabilities. All of luffy’s power that he uses to tap into to win comes from all of his hard work and training. You can say that he has the Gomu gomu fruit as a power similar to lura but the fruit doesn’t really do shit against strong enemies from the get go unless you already know what to do with it, with takes your own intelligence and physical abilities. In luffy’s case I see him aquiring the gomu gomu fruit as getting basic chakra, yeah you have the ability and opportunity to do some crazy stuff with it but you have to work your ass off in order to achieve it.

Basically what amenz is saying that if luffy or naruto was trapped in another dimension with no allies and a wave of enemies come at them non stop. Both of them will get tired but the HUGE difference is that luffy will have to fight on his own while naruto will always have kurama with him. Luffy wont get no stamina regen while naruto have almost unlimited supply of chakra from kurama lmao. Ichigo be doing the same thing with his hidden hollow powers. Also with naruto when kurama saves him, Naruto literally becomes stronger and have enhanced abilities bigger rasengan etc.. With luffy when he gets his own powerboost its more like a second or third wind like an adrenaline. Its a short burst of power up due to will power and after that he is down for the count. A good example was the lucci fight after the gatling gun luffy couldnt even move anymore.

I agree completely with Amenz. If I take something like Naruto vs Haku or something, he literally lost the fight until Kurama's chakra suddenly came out. Goku vs Frieza. Not really a "losing" fight, but Goku did get a huge power boost suddenly from nowhere. Luffy hasn't really gotten any sudden power boosts, this entire series. All his Gears he learned and trained for. He didn't use G2 until he fought Blueno in Enies Lobby, but it was something he already trained for in the background. He didn't just randomly get it.

Luffy's df is only good because his creativeness is what makes his rubber abilities powerful. Remember he trained basically his whole life with this one ability. Kurama gives naruto power that he didn't work for.

aymenz was just saying naruto always has kurama, whenhe was born he had it and he has it regardless of training, luffy had to obtain his skills and haki but when all else fails kurama is a get out of jail free card and a huge bailout and thats something naruto has that luffy doesn't, luffy just has a devil fruit and haki but every pirate in the new world has that. and when luffy is tired and cant use haki anymore and is about to be killed, someone like naruto has a kurama to bail him out while luffy in this case would be saved by another person. I agree with aymenz here . when luffy is out of endurance and strength and haki, he has nothing left - but naruto would have kurama as the ultimate backup/failsafe. so aymenz is right but it seems lycan doesn't understand the basic common sense here or he just was being stubborn

Every MC has plot amor but what I think Amez was trying to say in the beggining is that when it comes to powerboosts (and only powerboosts) that Luffy gets. Like gear 4th and gear 2nd its not just some random power that has him saying "Woah what is this power?". He created his own powerboosts and knows what it is, everything about it, and can explain it which is different from most MCs. Except for conquerors haki but thats not always useful against strong opponents.

Kuramas power is more unique and naruto did train in how to use it but i cant deny that its something he can fall back on if he runs out of energy especially during the war

I mean at this point they're not always gonna animate peoples legs or arms with haki. At this point you should pretty much just assume, if they hit luffy and it hurts=haki. Also yea as goofy as big mom is you gotta remember they are in Yonkou territory.
