Luffy cant use haki for 10 mins after using gear 4th. It was explained during his fight with doflamingo. Which is why there was a countdown to luffy's comeback. Aint no colossuem fighters or sabo to stall katakuri when gear 4th runs out

This is how I look at it: in a fight, Luffy needs to 1. understand the extent of his opponent’s abilities. 2. Try all the gears that don’t K.O him so he can understand at least how they match up 3. Use Gear 4th as last result. Gear 4th doesn’t just tire him out, it has a time limit. And after that time limit, he can’t do shxt for 5 whole minutes. It’s just the riskiest thing to use from the get-go when he doesn’t fully know the full extent of his opponent’s ability. Also Luffy learns by getting beat, lol. Think about it, he only came up with gear 2 and 3 after understanding how CP9 fought.
