Wouldn't make sense. Ace escaped and came back on his own. This is another good one by Oda. He made sure that you can't blame Luffy (or anyone else) for failing to save Ace (unless you are just a hater who wants to hate).

Another friend we called to hang out and watch with us, and we told him the other guy didn't see the whole show yet, first thing he does when he walked it, " Did Ace die yet " and he started laughing. For such a cartoony looking show, One Piece hits close to reality. Just when you think everything is going one direction, things can take an unexpected turn for the worst. You think people are invincible because everything always goes so well. All it takes is one event to bring reality back in to view. And I'm sure that's what's going on in Luffy's head right now, as it was in all our heads when we first watched that. We thought there was no way Ace was actually dying here

I don't know about the rest of yall but as the arc kept going I knew we were getting closer to this part and seeing Amenz's attitude towards Ace, Garp, the comments, just all of that I was like "man it's gonna hit harder by the time he dies" so to see that pic (Amenz looked like he was crying) and now this post, man it's gonna be rough to watch. Marineford is an amazing arc. If it's not Sunny dying it's this Ace death where a lot of people cry for the first time.
