IMO I think the ace is someone they rely on to spike despite the high chances of being shut down. Even if asahi doesn’t necessarily perform the best the team wants to rely on him when the going gets rough for everyone.

Tanaka is definitely a better payer than hinata, serving, defending (even if hinata has gotten better tanka is still better), and even attacking. Hinata has never gone through a double block, just by making the ball rebound off of them, but never like tanaka in this game (with the cross and the straight on the line) and he has done it twice this game alone against the best middle blocker in japan
