They didnt really needed a whole arc about armament haki because from sabaody - marineford war arc. Oda started introducing armament haki users. The sumo dude, rayleigh, the kuja warriors, whitebeard pirates, the vice admiral and above marines, etc.. So thats like 3-4 arcs hinting that armament haki exist. Plus the first armament haki user that was used was back then when garp punched luffy while he was sleeping post cp9 arc

i think the last time i looked at the timeline for op crew spent about 2 months total journey time before the split so the 2 years is 12 times as long as they journey together. kinda wild (found this break down) Day 1 Morning paper before reaching Loguetown. Storm starts when departing and ends at Reverse Mountain. Lunch, Zoro is sleeping. Zoro wakes up when reaching Whiskey Peak. Sunset. Day 2 They leave the next morning. Day 7 Oda gives out 'several days' through the journey. I'll be falling back on 5 days whenever he does this. Galdino says Miss Goldenweek has been holding onto their assassination orders for several days. SH are already on Little Garden when this happens. Day 8 They meet the Wapol Pirates. Day 9 SH arrive on Drum Island. Kureha says it is the 3rd day of Nami's illness. Chess says they met the SH 1 day ago. SH leave that night. Day 14 We're told 5 days pass. SH meet Bentham. They're low on food. Day 18 Zoro says they have not eaten in 4 days. They arrive at Sandy Island (Alabasta) and sleep at Yuba. Day 19 SH travel the desert. Day 20 Operation Utopia. Alabasta Civil War ends. Day 23 Luffy wakes up. SH leave at midnight. Day 24 SH leave Alabasta. Robin joins. Ace meets Buggy. Rockstar meets Whitebeard. Land on Jaya. Day 25 Adventures on Skypiea. Ordeal of Balls. Day 26 Survival Game. 400 Year War ends. Day 31 All we get is several days of partying. SH steal gold and leave. After landing in the Blue sea they're attacked by sea monkeys. Those same sea monkeys attack the Fanged Toad Pirates so it's the same day as Davy Back Fight. Day 35 Spend 4 days anchored on Longring. Day 38 3 days later meet Kokoro. Adventures on Water 7. No spoiler: If yall really wanna know why Shanks lost an arm, Oda’s editor told him to make it more dramatic which made the story go along the lines of “making it turn Luffy into a serious pirate” or Shanks “betting on the new era”

Haki is all about the user's spirit - stronger your will, stronger your haki, as long as you know how to use it properly. Since you didn't notice it as it was happening and was surprised when they straight up told you about Koby's Haki, I can talk a bit about it now that you have been getting an explanation about Haki in-episode. When Koby was at Marineford his Haki manifested, he felt people dying and hurting all over the place just like Aisa in Skypeia. The reason Helmeppo was confused is because he could not see what Koby was so upset over. I think it is worth a rewatch to get the full meaning since it went over your heads the first time around. It's in several episodes but 488 is the most important part and the bit at ~15 minutes is the biggest tell.

Remember how little Luffy was when Shanks lost his arm. Everyone has their journey, the Shanks who lost his arm to a east blue monster is not the same as current Shanks. There's also more haki than they showed, another strawhats already used it in a fight without knowing. And Marineford would be the armament haki arc. It's hard to tell they used it but there was a whole lot of logias getting hit.

Just in case you missed it, Rayleigh said he will teach luffy the *basics* of armament and observation haki as they only have 2 years. When rayleigh mentioned that some people may focus on one haki over the other, he didn't mean they only learn one type of haki, they may know both types but developed one of them to a higher level.
