Forcing people to live when they don't want to is a really grey area. It's definitely not as simple as just forcing them to live and them being mad at you and you hoping they get over it. You're potentially forcing agony on them. With the trauma of being a slave to humans, if he woke up who knows how he would have mentally broken after waking up knowing he has human blood in him.

Some people in the comment section are rights, the whole show of One Piece is oriented aroud "Conviction". Otohime spent months, years trying to prove that not 100% of humans above the sea are racists and evil but she never had examples or proofs to make her case towards her citizens. Going there alone with no strong people to back her up and coming back would proove the "not all of them are evil" statement because if it was true, she would 100% have no chance of coming back so she is betting on that with strong conviction not just for her point of view but for the future of her people and hope for the childrens... And all along we have seen people with strong conviction take big risks for their causes and not necessarily for pride or ignorance as you guys say it is in this flashback : like Vivi when she inflitrated Baroque Works for her country (even though she is considered a high value targer as a princess), like Bellemere spilling the true about being a mother of Nami and Nojiko in front of Arlong (so the kids would not feel abandonned and later on understand the meaning of "family"), like Gin not killing Sanji who fed him and being almost killed by his captain Don Krieg, like Luffy insisting on staying on Skypiea trying to ring the bell for Montblanc Cricket even though everyone wanted to flee because of the giga ball of thunder threatening all the island, like Luffy inflitrating Impel Down on his own without having any knowledge about it and no back-up, like Whitebeard telling his crew as his last order to flee without him (even tho we do know that with the likes of people like Marco Vista and Crocodiles and such they could have made a last attack rush and cause trouble to the navy together, and even possibly trouble Blackbeard and his crew), like the archeologists of Ohara studying the Poneglyph even though it's forbidden and even showcasing their theory to the 5 Elders, like Ao Kiji taking a BIG risk in the navy point of view by letting Nico Robin flee when she was young, like Luffy punching a celestian dragon at the risk (that came true) of seeing a navy admiral showing... And there are many more cases of Conviction actions related to come with big risks or high stakes to come that you haven't seen, but hey even in real life if you don't take some dramatic risks with little of chance, you often cannot change things that's how it is. ps : sorry for the long post i enjoy your debates and wanted to be part of it ha

Word, let people die how they wanna die. Either by refusing the blood of a race of in your eyes evil humans, or by stupidly ignoring the efforts of hundreds of friends, their deaths and struggles because a man smack talked about your daddy.

Fisher Tiger's death hits me very different nowadays. When people are dying like that, you have to respect their wishes even if you don't want to let them go. The resentment they will have towards you will be stronger than any relationship you had with them previously. I've had 2 family members in the past few months pass away who explicitly asked not to be resuscitated if they end up on their death bed due to complications of COVID-19. They refused to be on a ventilator even though it could have saved them. They didn't want to live that life and voluntarily chose that before ending up in the hospital. At the end of the day, you want them to live, but it's their choice whether they go or not if they are of sound mind and body.

What was Neptune supposed to do in that flashback?

Like someone mentioned, Otohime's observation Haki lets her feel everyone's pain. So she feels more than anyone because each person only has their own lives, but she feels everyone's at once. It makes little sense for her to easily ignore that pain and responsibility, so of course she'll be an activist and get drunk when she fails.

Veritas

I think the shandorians told Noland they could have the gold so it didn't matter. and Noland was loyal to his king.

Ace still would've died but I get what you're saying

Fax JB

when lycan said how /people do dumb stuff in OP i dont know why but i thought of ivankov not trying to heal ace he was just standin there shakin his head

SoulfanaC

Yeah but it's crazy Neptune didn't do enough to stop her especially when the Celestial Dragon was threatening them on his way out. I wouldn't let my sister or anyone close to me go even if there was a 10% chance of them never returning, no matter the cause lol

PGCot

I gotta agree with these 2 on the Fisher Tiger point...since he meant so much to everyone there just save him first, otherwise it's guaranteed death. Him killing himself is a possibility but not guaranteed....as he said people say things they themselves are surprised by when they about to die.

PGCot

I get what you guys are saying about the King not doing anything really. But I think what you guys need to try to see is that this backstory is centered around what Fisher Tiger and Queen Otohime did. So of course they would not show the King's POV as much. Not defending him or anything but I feel that it's almost unfair to judge him when we don't even see the full picture in his POV. But great reactions, I feel you guys on the Queen's decision to board the ship, but Luffy does stupid shit all the time and puts himself in almost impossible circumstances, but he ends up pulling through and keeps following his dream. I think the Queen is doing the same, she is just simply following her dream no matter what the stakes are. She is simply thinking of a better future for the children.

I don’t think you guys understand queen otohime. It was mentioned that she has an immensely strong observation haki which lets her feel everyone’s feelings really strongly. So she feels everyone’s agony over the humans. So she doesn’t need to be a slave to understand, cause she already does. Also, you guys say she’s being an idiot and all, but it’s big steps like these that really make a difference. Martin Luther king at the time was considered an idiot for making himself so vulnerable. Though he was considered by some as an idiot for fighting an impossible fight, he still did it for the sake of his people. Otohime is doing the same thing for her people no matter how far fetched her goals are.

Eric

Bruh, if Fisher Tiger is hateful enough to refuse the blood of a human to live and wants to die because of them, if he was forced to take the blood what is to stop him from killing himself because he personally thinks he is tainted with the "foul blood" Also calling the Queen stupid for trying to do what he heart truly wants, to help future generations live better lifes, despite it being very dangerous for herself is hypocritical. Your boy Luffy from day 1 been going out there, putting himself in danger's way because he wants to become the King of the pirates. He hasn't been no where near strong/powerful enough to get close to his dream, but we all cheer him on. How is it that Luffy's almost impossible, dangerous, and ultimately selfish dream of becoming the King of pirates somehow better than a woman's dream of a better life for her people? Change don't come easy and you have to take risks. Let the Queen follow her dream, like we all let Luffy follow his.

brooo! I paused the video around 15:37 and was like, "they look familiar". Then it clicked. They were referencing Dr. Seuss' Cat in the Hat and those really fast twins lol

JJ

Was right there with you guys when I saw this episode lmao.

One Piece flashback characters and short sightedness seems to be a common theme in it tbh. Noland told the king about the city of gold and they was about to go plunder it because I guess he couldn’t realize that’s what the king would do once he learned of it. Thankfully the city had been ejected to the sky by then. Also Shirahoshi calling them sea kings is always wild. The manga panel for it is amazing and both just show their shear size
