That would be a good explanation, however their have been times were Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji have used haki and its hasn't been colored black. Most notable recent one is Luffy punched Hoady with Armament Haki, because he says " he is still up after using armament" yet right before that comment Luffy used what looked like a normal punch. Many people think their is a colorless version of Armament, and in the wiki its actually separated as such.

It's probably best to assume we don't see things like that visually until Luffy learns to use it/see it himself. So people coulda been using it and we just didn't know until now. 2021-06-15 00:28:38 +0000 UTCYes, Conquerors Haki is the kind that knocks you out, nothing else does that. Armament is the most commonly used, which is just the black coating you see all the time. And observation probably doesn’t need explanation
