EMERGENCY POD - Summon The Count!
Added 2025-05-22 02:00:04 +0000 UTCMorning legends!
Pete and Marc have been so busy this week, we can't get together until later today to record the next proper episode, which is going to be about the Raw from the 6th July 1998 (which ran against the WCW Nitro episode where Goldberg won the belt that we covered last week). So that'll be with you in the afternoon, but that means one thing: it's an emergency.
And when there's an emergency, we need an emergency pod.
As long-time listeners will know, that means reading out from They Called Him The Count, the 1988 biography of British wrestling legend Count Bartelli which was written by his third wife. But not the bits about wrestling - only the very detailed and dry bits about the small chain of independent petrol stations that he sporadically ran in Crewe (I said I thought his hometown was Stoke-on-Trent on the episode, but I remember now, it's famously Crewe) from the 1950s until the 1970s.
This extract also features his third wife's merciless savaging of one of his former wives, so if you're not into the history of independent Crewe garages of sixty years ago, you might enjoy the bit where long-dead women are bodied by a jealous, aging astrologer.
This is Part 3 - Part 1 is here and Part 2 is here, if you want to hear it unfold in chronological order. You don't need to, it's boring whatever the order.
So we'll see you this afternoon and sorry about the delay!
Marc & Pete
