Having read up on this since, it seems to be that Rude was winning the NWA belt at Fall Brawl 1993 BUT WCW taped a month's worth of TV before that event had taken place, where Rude came out as the NWA champion, thus given away the result before the match had happened. Apparently, the NWA board hadn't been consulted on the change, were upset that the tapings made wrestling look so blatantly predetermined, and then dug their heels in, saying as they weren't asked before the match took place (although after the next month's TV had already been recorded), they wouldn't allow Rude to be the champ. If I had tried to explain that in the show, I think I would have had a haemorrhage.
