Protagonist you really have too many close calls. and this was pretty dumb. Of course he would notice you leaving. At this point you made no benefit to not telling him about the dark plants before just to have a risk of being near the blight on your own. Though you would have been much safer had it actually been in the forest but there is a lesson about blind trust.
