2023-08-04 15:11:01 +0000 UTCI believe the timeline is 4Kids got the first license for One Piece, and they changed Zoro's name to Zolo because they were afraid of the copyright of Zorro. Eventually Viz got the rights for the manga, and used Zolo as well just for continuity, because they assumed most of the fanbase would be reading the manga because they saw the 4Kids anime. Eventually 4Kids dropped One Piece, Funimation picked it up, and changed Zolo to Zoro, but Viz never changed back. So it's just one of those things you'll just have to get used to. There's not much in the way of censorship or name changes in the official English translation, so there's not a ton you'll have to get used to. The only other thing I remember is Ace's family name is Portgaz in Viz's version instead of Portgas. I don't remember why that one was changed, though.
