The anime skipped the build-up for this fight from the manga. Some shenanigans in the weigh-in, a lot of Shimabukuro looking down on Ippo because he didn't smell like the sea (but Ippo's mom did make an appearance, and he was very impressed with how she smelled. He's a weird guy.). Nothing huge, but there was enough that you wouldn't have said "We don't even know who you are" during the fight. It makes his last line, "You're not a fisherman. You're a boxer!", pack more punch. Still a decent fight though.
