Video - Making of Bed Creep

This will be the first proper entry for the video reward, hopefully, with CLIP new timelapse feature I can properly record every first page of our creature and character. For the layering, you can see the PSD files while watching the video to figure out the layer effect and arrangement I use.

For all of my illustrations for this Archive, I'm using CLIP Studio Paint. The brush that I mostly use for the coloring is watercolor brush and texture from this pack: https://assets.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail?id=1773995

Behind The Scene

For Bed Creep first page illustration, I want to make something that embodied both peaceful night and imminent danger. I don't want it to be all dread and gloom, because I think 'Slumber' more closely related to peace, or at least I feel the word made me think of that.

Therefore for this illustration, for the general atmospheric color, I'm using blue for the main color and a little bit splash of turquoise and green for the bounce light. For the midground which consists of the creature, bed, sleeping victim, I use lighter and slightly warmer color, ocre, to separate them from the background but still give it a splash of a blue overlay to still match the general atmospheric color. Because I want the creature to be the center of attention in this illustration, I use fleshy red to make it pop up compared to the rest of the illustration. Plus, I made a transition between the ocre to the fleshy red to illustrate its color-changing ability. I'm also trying to make it looks a bit out of place, to make it as if that warm fleshy danger doesn't belong to this peaceful scene.

This is the pallete that I end up using (Of course I made some adjustments and add some neighboring colors from each of them to make it more interesting). I use a triadic color (color theory) for this illustration (https://paletton.com/#uid=33l0x0kllllaFw0g0qFqFg0w0aF

For the finishing touch, I give a splash of turquoise and blue overlay on top of everything to keep them together, plus some screen layers to make a depth illusion and soft light effect.

and I also make some shadow cast on the victims to illustrate imminent death and draw the shadow cast by the creature to the drawer behind it to looks like a hand with multiple gangly fingers just to hammer those in~

I hope these behind the scene and thought processes of mine can help you or at least give some idea of how I make this illustration and some of its artistic choice. Let me know what you think about the video, explanation, or anything really. And if you have any question, you can leave them down in the comment or mention me on our discord server~

Sweet dream~ :D
