Item - River Tyrant Gauntlet

Martial Arts Set - River Tyrant Clan

River Tyrant Gauntlet

Wondrous item, varies (requires attunement)

This gauntlet is a weapon worn by warriors of the River Tyrant clan, which is part of the Hundred Guardians Alliance, a confederation consisting of numerous clans and tribes inhabiting the vast Svargiya Mountain range and its surrounding areas. The River Tyrant clan exerts control over a significant portion of the Golden Scale River, and their gauntlets serve as essential equipment in the practice of their traditional martial art, the Fang of the River Tyrant. Their martial arts style draws inspiration from the giant crocodiles that inhabit the river and has been revered as the clan's sacred beast since their ancestors' time. Infused with various enchantments and blessings, mastering the gauntlet progressively enhances the user's physique and paves the way to master various techniques of the Fang of the River Tyrant.

1st Fang.

While wearing this gauntlet, you gain a bonus to attack and damage rolls equal to half your proficiency bonus (rounded down) when making an unarmed attack using your fist. When making an unarmed attack using your fist, the attack deals 1d6 bludgeoning or piercing damage, at your choice. This damage increases to 1d8 if you are not holding any weapon or shield.

Grappling Jaw. Once per turn, when you hit a creature with an unarmed attack, you can attempt to grapple the target as part of the same attack.

2nd Fang.

At 5th level, you gain mastery of ther 2nd Fang of the River Tyrant. While wearing this gauntlet, You gain a +1 bonus to AC. additionally, The gauntlet now has a number of charges equal to your proficiency bonus and regains all expended charges daily at dawn..

Earth Sundering Claw. When you successfully grapple a target, you can expend one charge to use the Earth Sundering Claw technique, dealing an additional 1d6 piercing damage upon initiating the grapple and at the start of each of your turns while the grapple is maintained

3rd Fang

At 11th level, you finally master the 3rd Fang of the River Tyrant. When you hit a creature you're grappling with your unarmed attacks, it deals an additional 1d6 damage.

Death Spiral Dance. As an action, you can expend 1 charges to use this technique. You can spend 1 or more additional charges, each additional charge increases your movement speed by 10 feet until the end of this turn. as part of the action, you force a creature in your grapple to make a Strength saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength or Dexterity modifier, whichever is higher). On a failed save, you can move up to your full speed dragging the creature with you, or half your speed if the creature succeeds. During this movement, you spin and slam the grappled creature around, creating a path of destruction. For every 10 feet you move, the grappled creature takes 1d6 bludgeoning damage. If the creature fails its saving throw, at the end of your movement, you can throw the creature 10 feet away to the ground, dealing an additional 2d6 bludgeoning damage and knocking it prone. If the thrown creature collides with another creature or object, that creature must also make a Dexterity saving throw or take the same amount of damage and be knocked prone.

So, I had the sudden urge to make an item last week... triggered by the prompt 'Jaws' from the suggested list for this month. Also, it's partly because I've been reading a lot of martial arts / murim themed comics/manhwa these days, and I suddenly want to make sets themed around it. So this is the first set, themed around crocodile and grappling, one of my favorite fighting style while playing as a martial character in D&D XD

Also, I tried a certain formula and mechanic for these items. For these sets, I want to try making a growing item in which bonuses grow along with the character. But consequently, I can't determine the rarity. So, I decided to set them as 'Varies'. In a special case for the gauntlet, I made an item with growing bonuses and unlockable features. I think for the gauntlet, the 1st fang is equal to an uncommon item, 2nd fang is equal to a rare item, and 3rd fang is equal to a very rare item.

Let me know what you think, if you have any suggestion, idea, or whether you want me to make these kind of item more or not. Thank you >___<

The file will be added to the new folder in the Vault Post.

The problem with the rarity is that by level 9th it'll be +2 (rare), and by level 17th it'll be +3 (very rare/legendary). but I do agree that the first fang is equal to uncommon since I want DM to be able to give it to the low-level players early on the grapple limit is basically how many hands do you have, if you grapple 2, then you can't use your hand/gauntlet to make an attack XD and the Death Spiral Dance is only target one creature (a creature). although, as DM i might allow targeting all grappled creatures in each hand if the player have the guts to set up that situation XD

The last ability feels very Rock Lee and the Flying Lotus. Because the first ability scales with half prof you can call this uncommon. But I'd put a limitation you can only grapple one creature at a time.

It is definitely ideal for Monk, but I think Barb can do ground pound with this, paladin can grab and smite, rogue can kidnap people and run, and Fighter can do... whatever Fighter usually does.

I can see this working wonders for a monk class
