Patreon fee changes and what it means to you
Added 2017-12-08 01:16:35 +0000 UTCHello all you amazing peoples! So some of you probably heard that Patreon is changing the way they do some of their service fees so I wanted to give you a heads up as to what that means for you.
So at the end of every month, creators (that's me) have to pay a "service charge" to keep our Patreons running. It's like between 7 to 15 percent or something, which I don't mind paying at all, it is what it is. What they want to do now is lower my service charge to a flat 5 percent and put the cost on the patrons (you guys) by charging you 2.9% and a .35 cent fee. In short, if you are paying a $1.00, you'll be paying $1.38, $5.00 will be $5.50 and so on.
Now personally, I don't like this at all. If you guys follow more than one creator, those fees will probably add up and we're super worried that you'll bail on our Patreons because you're annoyed with the rising prices. They say it's better for everyone and that Patreon doesn't benefit from this directly but I'm not buying it. I'd rather pay my 15% or whatever if it means less weight for you guys to carry financially. I love you all and I can't stand that they're putting you and me in this kind of position for reasons that aren't really clear.
Anyway, I'm asking you all to bare with me through this weird ass change. We're trying to oppose this thing (because they didn't ask us AT ALL) but it'll take time for it to get sorted out and I absolutely refuse to let them blind side you with this nonsense so I wanted you to hear it from me directly. Hopefully it won't be too much of a change for some of you but my goal is to keep it from hurting any of you. Until then, I'm gonna continue making the best animations that I can and hope you stick around for all the fun! Love you guys and let's make 2018 the "sweetest" year ever!

I don't really mind that much, I support several people though Patreon and already have to deal with VAT charges. and in the end this won't add up to too much extra. I totally understand people not liking this. Hopefully at the very least patreon introduces a way for creators to eat the cost themselves if they so wish, either through a check box that does the calcuations automatically (if patreon are fine with OCD people) or by enabling weird ass pledge amounts (if they want to be bastards).
