Jennifer McNeil swatted a fly that looked like a house cat with wings. She was not happy to be out in the jungle, not happy to be wearing a bikini and not happy with the number of mosquitoes that were making a meal of her blood. The photographer, a young woman from the studio's press relations department gestured to a spot near the river.
"That'll be a good place, the light is perfect," the photographer said.
As a struggling actress with only a series of commercials to her resume Jennifer had leapt at the chance to play Jane in a new Tarzan movie series. If it was successful she could jumpstart her career and so she had not paid close enough attention to the fine print of the contracts she was signing which apparently included a press tour and photoshoot on location in the jungle near where the movie was meant to be set. Thankfully most of the actual filming had taken place back in the US on a soundstage.
They'd taken a Jeep from the hotel where the press junket was being hosted, the photographer bringing a bag full of camera gear and Jennifer wearing a light blouse and slacks over her costume which was just a leopard print bikini. The photographer was dressed in sensible khaki shorts and a t-shirt with a broad brimmed hat on to keep the sun off her face.
Leaving her shoes at the Jeep Jennifer walked to the spot and turned back to the photographer. She forced herself to smile, posing and not for the first time that day noting that her male co-star was not being forced to take part in this photoshoot.
After about five minutes of standing awkwardly and ignoring the bugs, Jennifer headed back towards the Jeep as the photographer picked up her gear. She was just about to climb into the vehicle when she noticed something move, catching a glimpse of something green with scales. A snake, a big one.
"Shit," she shouted, jumping back.
The photographer approached, "What's up?"
Just then the snake climbed out of the door of the Jeep that Jennifer had opened to get into. It slowly lowered itself to the jungle floor and let out a hiss, its face turning towards the two women. Jennifer backed up, and the photographer took out her camera snapping photos.
"What are you doing? We should get back, it looks dangerous," Jennifer said.
"Think of the press this could get. Tarzan's new Jane escapes a deadly python in the jungle, but for real," the photographer said ever the professional.
The snake hissed, its head moving as it seemed to study the two. Jennifer could have sworn that it was studying the camera, trying to decide if it was dangerous. It began to move slowly for the photographer, its gaze fixed on the camera's lens.
The other woman did not step back with Jennifer, and kept taking photos. Then the woman dropped the camera, as her arms seemed to fall loosely to her side. Her mouth fell open as she stared dumbly at the oncoming snake. Jennifer shouted at her, but the photographer didn't seem to notice, and the snake began to wrap itself around the woman, starting at her feet and moving up her body.
Jennifer could have sworn that she head the woman saying "Yes master, I am your slave." as the snake coiled around her. Not wanting to stick around Jennifer decided to run, heading into the jungle hoping that she could get some distance between herself and the snake and then come back later to get to the Jeep and call for help.
It was twilight when she neared the clearing where she had left the Jeep. She felt ashamed for having abandoned the photographer, but the snake seemed too dangerous and it wasn't as if they'd brought weapons. Jennifer was surprised however that there was no sign of the other woman, not even a discarded shoe. Approaching the Jeep she reached for the handle when she heard movement behind her.
Turning she saw the photographer. Now naked the woman was standing still as if at attention. Along the ground in front of her was the snake, slithering towards Jennifer. Jennifer tried to open the Jeep's door but found it was locked. It had been open earlier, why would it be locked now unless the photographer had locked it.
The snake neared her, its eyes fixed on her. Barefoot and with nothing but her bikini on there was little she could do other than grab a rock and throw it at the snake. She missed but the snake moved faster, and as it approached Jennifer noticed that its eyes seemed to shift colors. Blue, yellow, green and purple. It was a fascinating mixture that constantly seemed to change, shimmering in the dying light of the day.
Jennifer suddenly felt tired, having spent the day in the hot jungle her body was weary and her arms sagged at her sides too heavy to lift another rock. She just stared at the snake, drawn into the technicolor mirage of its eyes. If she looked closely she could almost hear it as if it was speaking to her. Its hisses making words.
"So ssssleeepy, ssssoooo sssssleeepy girlcub. Sssoooo sssssleeepy my sssslave," it seemed to hiss.
Jennifer smiled, a warm relaxed feeling washing over her as her mind seemed to PING and accept that this snake was speaking to her. The warmth increased as the snake wrapped itself around her body, its warm embrace relaxing her more as its eyes drew her further into its spell.
Jennifer heard a voice saying, "Yesss I am your sssslave." It sounded like hers.
Back at the hotel Jennifer's sister was freaking out, even after the two women had turned back up. After being fed and given water the Jennifer's sister took her back to the hotel room that they were sharing while on this work trip.
"I'm so glad that you're back," she said sighing with worry about her younger sister, "how do you feel?"
"Ssssleeepy," hissed Jennifer looking her sister in the eye. Jennifer's sister nodded, noticing how the actresses' eyes seemed to change color, shifting in the light as a sudden heaviness fell over her body.
