Some years later, the king promoted you to the position of head mage, and you earned his trust after doing many good deeds for the kingdom.
Eventually, you mustered the courage to ask the king for the princess’ hand in marriage. He agreed.
It was right when you were going to shoot your shot that a cursed dragon came along and snatched, then devoured (!!!) the princess. When the dragon was slain, all that was left of the princess were her bones.
Desperate and in grief, you took a risk and used the dragon’s heart as a magical catalyst in an attempt to bring Airlynn back to life. You succeeded at putting her complete consciousness back into a body, but the body was changed and not fully human nor dragon, due to the dragon’s heart being an imperfect catalyst.
Once the princess realised what had happened, she was deeply distraught and worried that she could no longer face her people. However, you promised her, from the bottom of your heart, that there was nothing to fear as you would be there to support her no matter what.

I just love how you showed us snippets of the two's past interactions, which honestly made me more emotionally attached to the princess than I would have normally. It makes me feel just a little tiny teeny weeny bit the grief this mage would've felt at her loss. And the revival scene, gosh, the sound effects were perfect. Man, this audio's a piece of heART.

It helped establish a bond between the two characters so it would be understandable for the mage to try and revive the princess as fast as possible. Also, I love the design! The heterochromia between the human and dragon eyes really makes it feel like a botched ritual.
