Hey everyone, I´m sorry about the ringlight that recflects in my glasses. But I can promise you, that this will only be a problem in the reviews in the beginning and in the end. But troughout the reaction this will fortunately be no problem. :)

Dr. Who Series 3 - The Family of blood

Absolutely right, I do not want the doctor to be cruel. :/ That family deserved death for killing so many other people. But they do not deserve eternal suffering. This is way worse. Good recall to "Boom Town". Oh I loved that scene, and that episode with all of those philosophical questions. :) Yes I remember "School reunion" and I know he said that. To me it was so shocking because the David-doctor did this. It wouldn´t have hit so hard with the Christopher doctor, because he was the one who reminded us regularly about the cruelty that lives inside him. But with the David doctor we have not seen a similar episode...Wait....hmmmm....now that I write it, the Christmas episode and the ending with the spider babys kinda felt the same...hmmm. So maybe my mind just suppressed that memory :D Yes that was a great moment. .) And I also agree, that this episode was one of the best. :)

BBC really spoiled that look into the doctors future? Oh that´s unfortunate. :/ I really liked those scenes. They were so nice, but so sad at the same time, knowing he will never get to that level of happiness. This is my favorite episode of this series, followed by the shapekspeare one. :) And yes, Martha´s speech is very powerfull. That´s true, I was thinking about the David´s accent, too. I didn´t point it out though. :) The ending really shocked me, I didn´t expect that at all. But you are right, it´s great story telling. It´s not out of character, because of his mentioning, of only giving one chance. But nonetheless it´s really shocking. Hmm, I don´t know if there was still a piece of Mr. Smith in him. It might be, but it would have been better to maybe mention that fact in a sentence. Point it out real quick. Because I would really want to know, if this was the doctor speaking to Joan, or Mr. Smith. The ending at the memorial is really cute. Seeing that man made me so sad. They did a great job with those last minutes of the episode. Hmm...I have seen the first 4 Seasons of Game of Thrones, but that was years ago and I don´t remember the characters. But now that you told me, I really want to rewatch it, just to see him acting :)

I'm concerned about the fate for the Family members too. We don't want our Doctor to be cruel. The Family caused many, many deaths in the area - people at the dance and in the village, the headmaster and the other school master, probably the balloon girl's parents - but primarily, of course, the four humans disguises. Recall the quote from "Boom Town" - "There used to be a real Margaret Blaine. You killed her and stripped her and used the skin. You're pleading for mercy out of a dead woman's lips.". The fate of the Family members take place in the bodies of those they had killed. He doesn't kill them, but I don't like it. (And the "every mirror" stuff is silly.) There's more of a coldness in the actions. In "School Reunion" the Doctor said "I'm so old now. I used to have so much mercy. You get one warning." Those fate of the Family scenes drop my story rating a small amount. However: The small moment when Smith holds the watch and unexpectedly explains something in the Doctor's voice is great. And the misdirection at the end when the Doctor stumbles against the controls as he pretends to be Smith and then reveals himself to be the Doctor. And Martha standing up to the Family at the dance. This is a good story!

I always call John Smiths vision of the life he could lead if he doesn't change, "the last temptation of the Doctor." Very emotional. It was slightly spoiled by the BBC at the time as they used it as part of the trailer shown immediately after the previous episode. Which left us confused as we didn't know what it meant. Except, of course, that it couldn't really happen. This is easily my favourite New Who story up to this point, including finales. Definitely 10/10 as a whole story. Martha was outstanding and her speech about what the Doctor means to her hits me really hard every time. The part where David Tennant goes from being John Smith to being The Doctor is especially impressive when you consider that neither of them speak in his real accent, since David is Scottish. A lot pf people, including me are uneasy about the Doctor's ruthlessness right at the end but dramatically it's a stunning piece of story-telling. And it continues his theme of giving people just one chance and no more. Plus I think there was still a touch of John Smith in him and he blamed them for taking away his chance of happiness with his human lover. That would explain the impulsive suggestion that Joan should join him as a companion. That along with the programme-makers' desire to show us how inconsiderate he is being to Martha. Anyway, that ending at the memorial service. I can't watch it without being close to tears and I've seen it many times. Baines was played by Harry Lloyd who has played many tv roles but is best known for being Viserys Targaryen in Game of Thrones.
