Dr. Who Series 3 - Blink

Oh ok....See, I said that I was not good with those quizzes :D

The Easter Egg on the Doctor Who Season 3 DVD set was the Easter Egg that was on the 17 videos in the story: The Doctor's video message to Sally.

I agree, watching this episode as the first one in the Dr. Who universe wouldn´t be such a good idea. It´s sets expectations really high. The angels are really scary to me, too. Just like mannequinns they freak me out when I see them. There is something about human-looking things, coming to life. So familiar, but yet so different. I agree with the police guy beeing to pushy in terms of flirting. That´s what I was thinking while watching. Also the doctors ability is something that can be argued. I guess, sometimes one just has to overlook certain plotholes, to be able to enjoy an episode. Or maybe you are more likle to overlook them, if you do like the episode..... And thank you for saying that this episode is not in your top ten. It balances the IMBD rating and comments praising the episode as one of the best ( Nothing wrong with that) it just raises my anxiety that we have reached the peak of what the show is able to do, and that it´s never gonna be that good again. So thanks for balancing that anxiety :D

Oh this episode was written by the same writer than "The girl in the fireplace"? Wow, this is so interesting. Especially thinking back to me, not really liking that episode. This episode was written as a quick replacement? That is so impressing. There are so many really creative people working on the show. Unbelivable how they are able to think of such stories. Hahaha thank you for sparing Andrews brain :D :D That´s very thoughtfull of you :) Oh no, I´m really bad with those kind of questions, lol :D But I guess, it´s an angel statue?

Nicologik

Thanks for telling me, that the title might be a spoiler. In this case it wasn´t but you know me. Better safe than sorry. I really appreciate you beeing so cautious :) I have never heard anything about any doctor Who episode. That´s what I love about me reacting to this show. It has the potential to surprise me with every single episode. :)

That´s one of the very moving dialogues in this episode. I´m still not over the fact, that I watched such a great episode of Dr. Who. And at the same time full of fear, that there wont be any episodes in the near future, beeing even remotly as good as this one. (Don´t tell me please :) ) Oh and I guess your point about Sallys notes makes sense. I didn´t even consider, that meeting the doctor was just a coincidence for her. And that she didn´t write those notes with the intention to give them to the doctor. The wibbly wobbly bit was really funny. I like that phrase. :) I had no idea, that those angels were played by actresses. I thought they were just statues :D

Thank you for sparing my brain! Lol

This story has become legendary, and is often used as an example of an episode to show to people unfamiliar with the series - which is perhaps not such a good idea if you actually want them to get to know the Doctor! The Weeping Angels are ,imo, the best 'New Who' monsters; and an excellent example of making something scary out of an everyday thing - along the same lines as seeing shop window dummies;or (in the case of Kinda) falling asleep and experiencing strange dreams. From a storytelling perspective, this doesn't work so well for me on a repeat viewing. The behaviour of the police detective, for example, feels creepy (his 'gorgeous girl' and continually hassling her for a date); while the Timey-Wimey predictions are simply too knowing and inconsistent with the Doctors ability (in the same way that he can sometimes fly the Tardis with absolute precision, while at other times has seemingly no idea where or when he's going - all dependent,of course, upon what the story demands; as opposed to what the character can or cannot do). A memorable episode - but not one of my Top 10.

Day Countdown: 0! Yes, this is among the very best of the stories we've seen (it won a Hugo Award). The writer had previously written "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances" and "The Girl in the Fireplace". This was another Doctor-lite story because their filming schedule at this time needed one Doctor-lite episode per year, It was actually written as a quick replacement for another story concept. In the behind-the-scenes show, the episode writer said of Doctor Who plots: It needs a big strong idea. You know you've got a good idea for a Doctor Who story if you think "Well I've just blown that feature film idea forever, haven't I?" Some of the BTS scenes show the people in their fantastic statue makeup wearing a robe or hanging around during a filming break. And that's really creepy to see. Incidentally, your moderator's brain would blow up if anyone suggested you actually watch the Doctor Who Confidential for this episode. It is PACKED with Classic Who spoilers. They are interviewing the writers (who are fans of the classic era) asking about their memories of the series and they show all the clips. I won't suggest you watch it. Brains are important. --- So I have my Doctor Who Season 3 DVD on the main menu. I go to the "Scene Selection" and select "Scene 9". Then I press "up". There's no reason to press "up" - it doesn't look like it goes anywhere. However, when I do it highlights the "Blink" episode title. I've found a Easter Egg on my Doctor Who DVD! And when I press "select" ... what do you think I see?

Andrew Vignaux

"Blink" is the most famous episode of "Doctor Who", and a lot of people have heard of it or have seen it even if they've never seen anything else from the show, so that's why I thought the title might have been a spoiler for you. I'm so glad that you hadn't heard about the Weeping Angels or about anything else that happens in this episode before you got to experience it for yourself!

Billy: "It was raining the day we met" Sally: "It's the same rain" Kills me every time. And this is one of the most popular episodes of Doctor Who ever. And you are right, it stars Carey Mulligan who is now a successful film star but was unknown then. She was already somebody who dominates the screen though. By the way, she didn't write down all the information that the Doctor needed because she didn't yet realise that she was going to meet him. Also, I think The Doctor recorded the whole message on all the DVDs that he knew Sally would own. The message wasn't spread across all of them. I'm fairly certain I have got that right. I think replaying the Doctor's dire warning at the end while showing shots of various statues was a last minute decision. In fact of lot of this story was changed from its early basic form. "Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey" instantly became a catchphrase amongst "Whovians" after this story was broadcast. And I think that the Angels were played by two actresses for most of the close ups if not the long shots. I love this story and coming after Human Nature/Family of Blood it makes three classics in a row!
