You are not alone in loving Donna. By the end of this series I can guarantee that you will love her even more. I really like her too but we all have our favourites. And I think Donna is may people's favourite from this era.

Awwww I would love to have one of those. Maybe I´ll buy one some day :) Thank you for looking it up :)

Oh wow what a story. That poor Penny character. They just reused the name, but she never got to be a companion. Although I have to say, I couldn´t be happier for Donna, because I love that woman. I wish her all the best and I want her to be a companion for the next 10 series. I´m quite positive about that :D :D Lol That window scene was GOLD. I love it to bits. I rewatched it so many times by now. My favorite New Who scene :D

Interesting that you like Martha more. I don´t know why and how, but Donna stole my heart. I like everything about her. I know this may be a surprise, but at the moment I am rating her higher than Rose, which is also very surprising to myself. I don´t know how that happened :D Haha yes the "wanting a mate" and "wanting to mate" scene was sooo funny. I wonder how they translate that joke into another language. I don´t think it´ll work in any other language. Hmmm wait a minute.... Ok I just watched the German version and like I said it doesn´t work at all. Literally translated they say "I want a partner"...."For what, to mate with her"....."No, no, just as a partner, a companion, something like a buddy". So the meaning is still there somehow, but the joke is gone....That´s a pity, I´m glad I watched it in english first. :) To be honest I didn´t really think much about the Penny character. I was way to invested in the rest of the story. So I guess I am one of those people. But I like how you point out that she was treated really badly in this episode. Now that I think about it I agree, it´s just that I didn´t pay attention to it while watching. So thank you for letting me see your point of view :)

Yes they are sooo cute :) I like having a cute villain for once. :) Hahaha that window scene is my most favorite Doctor Who scenes at the moment. :) Thank you for explaining the grandfathers character. I liked him very much, but I´m sad that the actor who played her father has passed away.

Wilf may be the only character in New Who, and possibly in all of Who, that I've never heard anyone say anything negative about. Everyone seems to like or love him!

Good point about "Penny Carter" being a diligent journalist but played a bit for laughs in the episode. I've just checked in "The Writer's Tale" and there was an idea that the companion "Penny Carter" would have a job as a journalist. I had forgotten that. The companion "Penny Carter" is closer to the character that ended up in the episode than I had remembered - not just a re-use of the name. So, IF Donna had not been investigating in the hope of finding the Doctor, it's entirely possible that the Doctor would have rescued "Penny Carter", the journalist - and new TARDIS companion.

I'm afraid that the Adipose do nothing for me :( I find them far too cute to be any sort of threat. HOWEVER - the scene where the Doctor and Donna become reacquainted has to be one the funniest in the entire history of Who; and I've watched it countless times! The character of Donna's grandfather apparently came about because the actor who played her dad in Runaway Bride had passed away; and a replacement father-figure was needed. Bernard Cribbins (the actor who plays Gramps) is a British institution, and has appeared in everything: many children's tv series; dramas; comedies; countless movies - even an Alfred Hitchcock thriller...plus,he has a previous connection to Doctor Who :D

Ian Smith

Love Donna. But I still love Martha more. That scene in Utopia she was trying to help the Doctor by telling him something he really needed to know. Anyway. I love pretty much everything about this episode. The Adipose creatures, the scene with Donna and the Doctor mouthing and miming at each other, the mystery of why Rose is there, the misunderstanding about "wanting a mate" and "wanting to mate". But I think I must be the only person who thinks that the character of Penny Carter, the woman journalist who kept being tied up was treated really badly, By any standards she was pretty brave. Investigating the company on her own, and trying to expose what they were doing. For some reason the Doctor was really dismissive to her saying "you're a journalist, make something up" and not even untying her until she asked "are you going to just leave me here?! I am guessing that Russell T Davies just doesn't like journalists. When she stayed in the office to gather incriminating files about the "foster mother" woman, instead of running away like the Doctor told her, I (again) thought that was quite a brave and conscientious thing to do but she was made into a joke figure whose predicament we were supposed to laugh at. Rant over. I have just always wanted to put that into words. And it was the only part I didn't enjoy. The rest was excellent.

I've just had a quick look, and there are adipose toys: you can get "plushies" and also other types. There also seem to be a lot of ones that have been knitted by fans!

Let me tell you a story about a Doctor Who companion - no spoilers. Her name was Penny Carter. Actually, it took a few tries for her name to end up as Penny Carter. She was the new companion to be introduced for the first episode of series four. There were some early thoughts about what the how the character could be introduced and what could happen in the plot. Penny was going to be slightly older than Rose or Martha and a bit feisty. You know? And then Catherine Tate was approached about coming back as Donna and she said yes. So Donna was in and Penny Carter was out. Poor Penny Carter never got to travel in the TARDIS. BTW: the woman journalist who was tied up on the chair in this episode - her name is "Penny Carter". She's not the same character - they just reused the name for the name of the journalist. The window scene - how great was that! Of course both this story and "Boom Town" were written by RTD for your comedy moments. Here's a quote from RTD "I'm very pleased with the Doctor and Donna's meeting (Very pleased?! BLOODY DELIGHTED! If not ECSTATIC!)" I love the Doctor and Donna pairing. This was a fun episode.
