The waterpistol idea was great 😊 Yes those Latin phrases were funny indeed. I liked the first one the most because it was such anobvious one 😊 You're right, the problem in this eisode was special, but so tragic. I'm not sure if i could have made that decision and went trough with it. The mental strength of the doctor is unbeliveable. And I'm happy he now has a companion that makes him feel better in those situations. Oh thank you for the info for the volcano phrase, I didn't put that together 😊 And thank you for the info about the history. I'm very interested to learn more about it 😊

Yes that's how I understood the references, too. And the episode was a good one, agree 😊

(Googles "trolley problem".)

"You fought her off with a water pistol. I bloody love you!" - Donna Noble A water pistol - isn't that great! I like the running gag of the TARDIS crew using common Latin phrases and the townsfolk thinking they are speaking a Celtic language. This is a nice plot idea. Normally a monster arrives and the Doctor has to get rid of it to keep history chugging along the way it should be. In this case the monster was there, embedded and, with inaction, "history" will continue on: the city of Pompeii would survive but the Pyroviles would go on to destroy the world. So, we have the famous "trolley problem" magnified by ten thousand - the Doctor has to positively act and sacrifice the city in order to save the world. And Donna is there to help him. The Doctor uses the phrase "Volcano Day" which echos Captain Jack's use of the phrase in "The Doctor Dances". The town scenes were filmed at a studio in Italy. There was a fire at the studio which initially caused some production concerns - just something to remember because there is a nice BTS reference later. Because of the way Pompeii was buried so quickly (rather than decaying over centuries) it gives historians a vivid snapshot of life in a Roman city. There's a book and some documentaries on Pompeii by Mary Beard on this subject. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0zBG5R7TXU

I think that the reference to a "child of London" was actually addressed to Donna because that is where she is from. But one of the soothsayers goes on to predict that "she is returning" which probably is a reference to Rose. And the Doctor's comment that "you will be remembered" means the people of Pompei in general rather than the man he is speaking to. I like this episode quite a lot. It's not the best one of this series by a long way but it does drive the Doctor/Donna relationship forward and it does end up having very high stakes indeed.
