I always think about, wether people nowadays would react different. Would they be better, or even worse? It really was painful to watch her troughout the episode. I can´t even begin to imagine how horrible this day must have been for her. I agree, jack really overreacted, and made her life even harder. He really seems so much more serious in this show, than in Dr. Who. It seems like he lost all of his humor and lightheartedness, it takes away the most loved side of the person we liked so much on Dr. Who, which is a pity. Haha that ending is gold :D :D

Do you think it´s necessary to watch all of series 2 of Torchwood, before we get to a certain point in Dr. Who series 4? Haha you´re right. I didn´t think about the coat. :D And I guess the writers didn´t either. You´re a very good observer :)

By a coincidence of timing, you released "The Fires of Pompeii" and "Sleeper" on the same weekend - written by the same writer. The Torchwood one was written and broadcast first. FYI Torchwood had finished showing all of series 2 before the first episodes of Doctor Who series 4 were shown. Owen's sex comment: I see it as a bad-taste tension joke - and sets up Ianto's End of the World reply above. Actually there are a lot of jokes by Ianto in this one. You mentioned that your first reaction to seeing Jack get killed was shock before remembering that he was immortal. In this case my reaction was - that he was going to need another greatcoat after the one he was wearing got a really nasty hole in it (and the greatcoat itself isn't immortal) :-)

2022-07-11 09:09:28 +0000 UTCI saw a documentary about the Milgram experiments back in (I think) the 1970s. It featured actual film footage of the participants and was quite horrifying. It was a relief to see some people refusing to turn the shock level up and one guy replying to the statement "the experiment requires that you proceed" by saying something like "I think we're all here of our own free will" . Anyway, I had forgotten how painful it was to see the poor woman, who had no idea about her alien origin, being terrified and treated like she knew what she had done. By Jack mainly. He was right about the need to find out what was going on but, in my opinion, quite wrong to shout and harangue her when it was clear that she believed herself to be human and innocent. Like we have all said before, he is a much harder character in Torchwood than he is in Doctor Who. That sounds like a criticism of the story but it isn't really. I thought it was really compelling and the actress who played Beth did a brilliant job. Season two is a big improvement on series on in my opinion and we still haven't got to the part where.............
