Dr. Who Series 4 - Midnight

Yes it is ! I agree with you on the reasoning, why one wouldn´t rewatch as much even if it is a brilliant story. And I don´t know how it will feel rewatching it after a few months or even years. But having watched it for the very first time just blew me away. I loved every single second of it. :) You´re right this would be a good story to show to someone who doesn´t know the show, because it´s such a standalone episode. :) The fact that children of former actors do play a part in certain episodes every now and then is so mind blowing. Was there ever another show who was able to do that? I don´t know any.

Wow, he wrote this episode in 3 days? This man is a genius :D :D Hahaha my Karen is your Val :D :D She is definately the person who is to blame, when it comes to the outcome of this situation. She is the one talking all the time, even if they should have just been quiet. So I guess I have to agree with RTD here. I agree, the fact that the hostess didn´t even get a name is super sad. Thank youf for the info about the "Crusader 50" joke. :) Every time I hear something like that, it makes me feel so strange. I mean, this is a one time thing only right? That a show goes on for so long, that even the children of former actors and actresses do have the opportunity to play in the same show as their parent once did. It feels so unreal. But it makes me happy at the same time. :) I didn´t even think about the TARDIS to be honest. If you haden´t pointed it out I wouldn´t have known. :) I underrated it? Right, it´s only my favorite episode of the show, but yes I underrated it :D :D :D

"Shamble, booble, dibble, dooble." - The Doctor and Sky Silvestry, Midnight This is a diamond-tipped episode. It was a late replacement script with budgetary and special effects constraints. So we get a fabulous one-set theatre piece. RTD only had about three days to write it. "If there's a monster on board that ship, it's Val" - RTD. Val is your "Karen". In her fear and panic, she drives the hysteria in the group. I hope we would be better than that in a crisis. At the end the Doctor asks of the hostess who sacrifices herself "What was her name?". She is not named in the script either - just "Hostess". So sad. It was planned to be episode 8 in the season and therefore the 50th episode of New Who. Ben, RTD's correspondent in the book, suggested that the bus be called "Crusader 50" as an in-joke. However, in the end the Library two-parter was move ahead of "Midnight" in the schedule so the "50" joke didn't work any more. BTW The inside cover of the hardback has a big picture of the cast and crew working on the "Midnight" set. So with David Troughton's appearance, this is the second time this season we've had a child of a Classic Who Doctor in the cast. I spot some Patrick Doctor mannerisms in his acting here. David Troughton had also been in a few Classic stories so he also joins the Classic/New Who actor club. And another Billie credit! BTW This is the first story for a long, long, long time with no TARDIS. What was the last story not to have the TARDIS? You just saw it - "Genesis of the Daleks". Yeah, I quite like this episode. I think you underrated it.

It's an utterly brilliant story - the writing, the acting and the direction. I love it whenever I watch it but I don't think to re-watch it nearly as often as my other favourite episodes. And I think that is because it is such a stand-alone story, complete in itself. It doesn't form part of the series arc or the development of the Doctor/companion relationship. So, no matter how great it is, it becomes neglected and not always remembered. as it should be. All that said, I would rate it very highly indeed. Certainly among the best episodes of the programme. Incredibly tense and claustrophobic and you are right about Davis Tennant and Leslie Sharp, who plays Sky Silvestry. Both their performances were phenomenal. Incidentally, the Professor is played by David Troughton, whose father was the second Doctor. And the director was Alice Troughton who is no relation to either of them! I always think it would be a good episode to show to someone who doesn't really know the programme and would like to see if they would enjoy it. Either this one or Blink. Or maybe both. A Doctor focussed episode and a Doctor-lite one,
