Torchwood Season 3 - Children of the Earth: Day Five

This is a fair warning: Get your tissues ready. This is not going to be an easy one, I´m afraid....

Torchwood Season 3 - Children of the Earth: Day Five

I´m 100% there with you. It´s not fun, it´s not really entertaining either. It like a trainwreck about to happen and you just can´t look away. It hurts but you keep on watching. Mr. Frobisher is a really interesting character, I´m so sad about his death and what he had to go trough before he ended his life. I don´t even want to think about it anymore. I don´t know if I will ever be able to rewatch those episodes. I will at least need some months before I can edit them for Youtube. And I would have helped you punching the prime minister :D

Yes it is, indeed. Very exhausting to be honest The start of the episode was interesting to say the least. To mention the doctor, made me think he really might be in the episode. And I was a little disappointed that he really wasn´t. But it set the mood for the episode, for sure :) The 456 are the worst. OMG that Frobisher scene really got to me. They way they mixed those scenes was heartbreaking. I felt so lost watching that piece. What a great way to portray a scene like that. So well done. Haha well, I cheered :D Right! Thank you for reminding me about the trolley problem. That´s so true. He really has to make that decision. Arggg.. Why didn´t I think about that in my review.... I agree about the Denise issue. She really is in it too deep, to get out of it without facing any consequences. She wouldn´t get my vote either :)

This is an emotionally exhausting series. The choice to start the episode with Gwen's video is interesting. There's a mention of the Doctor, and you think "oh, that's right - he's in this Universe too" and for a brief moment you think there might be a series crossover solution to the crisis - but that feeling fades quickly. We finally find out what the 456 want the children for - and the situation gets worse and worse. Bridget Spears talking about John Frobisher while we see him slowly walk upstairs and it dawns on you what he will do is - what a scene. And at the end of the episode we realise that, although he could not have known it then, the children would have been saved. Mr Dekker is really annoying and very dislikable - who doesn't cheer when Johnson shoots him? To continue our "trolley problem" analysis from previously, the calculation now shockingly comes down to sacrificing one child to save everyone on the planet - and Captain Jack has to make the decision. I'm not sure why the woman politician (Denise Riley) feels her position is safe and why the Prime Minister's situation is different - she was in the meeting room when all the planning occurred, she was the one who proposed selecting the worse-performing schools rather than a purely random selection. Ok, she didn't heartlessly say that they were lucky - but she wouldn't get my vote. An interesting story as a whole - but it's hard to watch.

I don't think I have a favourite episode of this story. The whole thing is an intense emotional ordeal. I wouldn't call it fun or even entertaining exactly but it's mesmerising and I can't take my eyes off it. The final two episodes are the most chilling and the earlier ones are more mysterious. And Peter Capaldi's understated portrayal of Mr Frobisher is an incredible feat of acting. He doesn't show a lot of obvious emotion but you can see from the start that he is a man in pain, trying to do what he thinks is his duty. His final scene is heartbreaking. Although I always think that,, if it were me, I would punch the Prime Minister in the face a few times before leaving.
