January Skin Horse Wallpaper

For this month's wallpaper, I decided an action pose would be fun. For some reason I always want to put Tigerlily in secondary colors, so this orange/green/purple palette seemed like a good idea.

Get the wallpaper, plus a bonus January design from the archives, right this way:

And here I thought it was just to make them look cooler.

Comics History Time! Back when color separations were done by manually cutting out sheets of Ben Day dots, it was easiest to do either primary colors or secondary colors that shared a primary. Hence the huge number of Silver Age characters who were green and purple...slap down a blue outline, then bits in yellow or red. Heroes got to be primaries, villains got to be secondaries. Now, when it came time to do brown skin, you needed all three primary colors in the right proportions. So the quickest way to do clothing for a Black person was to subtract out one of the three in each of the distinct areas. That tended to leave you with a lot of orange and purple outfits, especially if green was being reserved for the villain. However, this got built into the designs, which became traditions. And even today, where color separations are computerized, a lot of Black characters get put in purple and orange outfits.
