We Are So Back

As we head into another IP Tentpole Summer, it's worth noting that Houston has quite a few things to see this weekend. In addition to catching up with BlackBerry, we've got Master Gardener, Monica, and L'Immensitá opening tomorrow. I know the reviews for the Crialese have mostly been tepid, but I recall admiring Respiro, and besides, I have a personal interest in the subject matter. I'm actually much more ambivalent about the Schrader, since I've honestly never dug anything he's made. I guess I noddingly approved of First Reformed, but I certainly didn't achieve the rapture experienced by many of my peers.
As for Monica, I've actually seen and liked a previous film by Andrea Pallaoro, Hannah starring Charlotte Rampling. Truth be told, I'm least interested in BlackBerry, since I didn't much care for Operation Avalanche and turned off The Dirties after about ten minutes. Then again, I don't think I've ever not seen a film featured on the cover of Cinema Scope, and why start at #94? If I were "that sort of person," I'm sure I could pitch a think-piece about BlackBerry, Air, and the goddamned Flamin' Hot Cheetos movie, with lots of nifty quotes from Guy Debord and Jean Baudrillard. But I've got enough homework, thanks.
Oh! And there's also the Nam June Paik documentary, but to my knowledge, no one likes it, and besides, wouldn't it properly honor the man if I watched it on a TV?

Don't forget about TETRIS for your imaginary think piece! (Don't know if you've read @capybaroness's TETRIS review, it's great: https://boxd.it/43W1Wv)
