I was genuinely surprised (mostly cause I stopped running that blog ages ago and lost my access to that WordPress account lol). I feel honored, though the post is 8 years old, I still stand by it and the inspiration Atomic Rockets gave me in it. Thanks for the recognition!

2020-04-13 21:45:21 +0000 UTCIf an author is bound and determined to have space pirates AND they have FTL starships, there are ways to add made-up rules to the FTL system that will allow both stealth and space pirates. I mean, breaking just one rule of physics is like trying to eat just one potato chip.

2020-04-11 16:06:55 +0000 UTCAh Space Pirates! If it wasn't for the fact that TINSIS (There Is No Stealth In Space) they would be a threat in a hard SFRPG. But Traveller uses reactionless drives, so you only have their meager heat to lock on to... except they all have Fusion Reactors and no radiators... Yeah, Traveller is Pulp SF. Not to be taken seriously.

2020-04-11 05:12:53 +0000 UTCFor Faster Than Light 1, you need to add one more to your Terminology list: FAL: Fast As Light. This is how starships work in Ken MacLeod's Engines of Light trilogy. Ships get turned into a hideously complex photon and travel at the speed of light for a set duration. How this duration is set, no one knows, but, to quote someone, it works "Splendidly."
