also it extends into a 'globalized' feeling, since having more export targets is always preferable, and having standardized languages also becomes far more desirable as the scope increases. What I think will eventually become the most dominant shared language is just mathematics at a basic level, though. Not sure what else can be completely unambiguous.

2020-08-16 13:58:05 +0000 UTCOn the spread of interstellar empires, etc., need to also remember that we wouldn't have considered the Earth habitable 2.5 billion years ago, maybe even 1 billion years ago. Earth really became habitable about 600-500 MYA. So if Jonny-space-seed showed up before that time, they may have decided that our world would be too much trouble to exoform to their liking. (And they could tell that with decent planetary telescopes light years away.)
