“30 minutes” wasn’t meant to be taken literally. It’s just a way of saying that New Jersey and New York are very close to each other. They are only one bridge apart. Hence the joke about the mom saying “that’s so far”. I live in NYC and I can definitely get to NJ in 30 minutes.
