In Tolkien lore- elf women can choose immortality with their own people, or mortality with a human man. Itβs because whoever they want to birth the children of. Now, in this choice they also receive the afterlife of man or elf. Itβs different. Elves live forever, but if they do die, their spirit ends up in a sleep like state in The Halls of Mannos in Valinor. Think of it as a soul library of elves; to re-awaken one day at the appointed time. Tolkien was a Christian. So he said there is also an afterlife for humans, but no one knows what it is except for God. That was a tricky way of putting his own religion in his stories without really putting it in there πππ
