"The Permaberry Paladin" Original Drafts

"The Permaberry Paladin" is my most recent novel, but it was actually the first I tried to write, and went through about four different iterations before the final result. I outlined my original idea back in 2019, which had a much larger cast and likely would've been two to three times longer if I'd stuck with it. Ultimately I shelved it for about a year before writing and publishing my first kink work, "Levi's Game".

I returned to the idea after publishing a couple of works, intending it to be my first berry inflation novel. My second attempt shrunk the cast down considerably and condensed the plot as well. I got about 8500 words into it before shelving it again because it didn't click with me.

I made a third attempt a couple of months later, again condensing the cast. I wrote over 20,000 words of that version before again hitting a roadblock and shelving it.

After publishing "Ambition and Berries", a berry inflation novella, I finally had the confidence to return to the old idea. I reduced the cast even more, focused the plot, and changed the setting to match the one I'd created for "Ambition and Berries". Luckily fourth time was the charm, and "The Permaberry Paladin" was finally finished and published.

To celebrate Juicy July, I thought it'd be fun to release the unfinished 2nd and 3rd attempts to write the novel. You can see where they diverged with each other and with the final version, and how characters shifted roles. You'll also get a look at what my first drafts tend to look like, before I do any editing. I hope you enjoy them!
