Sales Tax Shenanigans

EDIT: I added a picture of my dog to make this post less boring.
Apparently from June 1st Patreon will be required to apply sales tax to the pledges for all US based patrons.
As far as I'm aware it only applies to our American friends. They emailed with something regarding assigning a percentage value to tier specific benefits or something but it didn't make much sense and doesn't seem to work properly anyway.
Just a heads up, peeps! Thanks again for your continued support!

It doesn't seem to make a difference, I get charged VAT even on subscriptions to Mexican artists with like 200 dollars/month channels, Patreon has a bigger turnover in each country than the limit and that's probably what counts. Commissions are another thing, though the whole thing about PayPal wanting you to use invoices is probably related.

2020-05-29 08:55:37 +0000 UTCThey've been charging VAT in the EU for years now. At first it was only for new pledges, but like the start of 2019 it was applied to existing ones as well. I'm pretty sure you are charged depending on where the patron lives, not the artist.

2020-05-29 00:18:22 +0000 UTCNo idea. It's due to some new change in the law that came into force this year. I'm not American so I'd not heard anything about it until this.
